EDITED UPDATE: (February 2013) In Ireland, the surname "MacCartney," is of "Scottish" origin and is cognate with the surname of MacCartan, a branch of the MacKintosh Clan which has prominently been found in Ireland since the Mid 17th Century in North East Ireland. While sometimes confused to be so. The surname "MacCartney" is "not" a variant or branch of the McCarthy (MacCarthaigh) Sept. The initial family history given above, is that of the MacCarthaigh's descendency, not the MacCartneys who are of early Scottish origins. (Irelands MacCarthy history is very well known and documented. This update (Correction(s) and information is easily verifiable by referencing any of the works of Edward MacLysaght former Chief Herald, Genealogical Officer of The Irish Office of Arms, Keeper of Manuscripts at The National Library of Ireland, Chairman of the Irish Manuscripts Commission and leading authority concerning Irish names and family history and who is oft considered to be, the last most respected person to hold the title of Chief Herald. Cheers, K. MacCarthaigh

Concerns about the accuracy of an article should be raised on the talk page, not in the article itself, so I'm moving it here. Feel free to correct the article if it's wrong, but simply adding a note to the end of the article isn't the way to do it. DoctorKubla (talk) 22:13, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
