I have created this article as a former owner/operator of McBBS with first hand experience to its capabilities and features. I used almost every version of the program. Information has been gathered from other former users of the software, which are scattered all over the world. The problem is, the history and reference is material in print format, and although the Emperor Multimedia website did feature an extensive history on McBBS until very recently, the product has been deleted from their catalog and they may no longer feature the page, by request, however, they seem willing to share the data and Derek McDonald himself still works at Emperor Multimedia and has gone on to develop other products for the firm. Much of the documentation that exists on the program came with the with the original BBS software. I will be looking for other references myself, but if you come across anything usefull, please add it to the article or to the article's talk page.
Added new data[edit]
I've added some new stats info. on the article. The data on the UNESCO "Bibliotheca Alexandrina" is based on a letter I have actually seen dated 12, August. 2007 as well as two postal receipts showing shipments. The letter was written by Chief Librarian Sohir F. Wastawy, Ph.D. and sent to McBBS author. Skelizuma 13:24, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

I ran versions 3.1-5 and it was definitely by a Derek McDonald, there may have been others by the name but his is *THE* MCBBS us old-school BBSers knew. BUT: How do we update the citations, the info page cited for the history and tech. specs. WAS correct but the site owners moved the article to: http://www.diskery.com/projects/mcbbsfile.html ? Since Emperor Multimedia no longer exists, all that remains is the projects/products pages and that citation IS correct. BTW: The owner of the DISKERY.COM domain IS *THE* Derek McDonald in question - did a WHOIS search and bluntly asked him. :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.93.30.46 (talk) 00:57, 14 June 2014 (UTC)
An update was made to the McBBS user manuals back in 2017 to correct some type-O's and syntax; looks like somebody is taking some care to "curate" the old program's site. You can download it with the package available at the previous mentioned "diskery" URL. Additionally, that http://www.diskery.com site's help file located at: https://www.diskery.com/diskery_help.php?SUBJECTA=About%20Diskery&SUBJECTB=Diskery%20History&SUBJECTC= shows "Derek McDonald" as its programmer but sadly doesn't mention McBBS. Diskery, BTW seems to be a huge music biography database, to find the McBBS stuff you need to access it via the "Special Projects" on the side panel menu or enter the URL direct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.101.65.45 (talk) 00:43, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
