Two (maybe three) Mazra'as[edit]

Be careful. There was one in the Nazareth area, near al-Fula and al-Afula, as described by Guerin here.

There is another one discussed here. He mentions that it is a village of 600, whose women, along with those of A'roura, are obliged to get their water from the spring of 'Ain A'roura, located about a 10-minute trek away from the village of Mezra'a.

And another one discussed here, which I think is the one we want, since nearby places include Ras al-Ein. Unfortunately, Guerin describes it as a village of "litle importance" with houses that are "small" and "with a miserable aspect" (?!?). He says it is situated on a rocky hill. Hey Huldra. This link to Mezra'a Mechraf ... I'm not sure if it is in fact this Mezra'a. I don't want to start translating it only to find it it doesn't belong here. How can we sort all these different Mezra'as out? Tiamut^talk 17:46, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Petersen, p216, for "al-Mazer", gives location as 32.41N/34.58E --> Al-Mazar, Haifa.

And then he has on p.216-220, "Mazr'a", (32.59N/35.06E) (=this one). He then gave the Guerin, Galilee, II, p.405 ref, and the rest (of course: he might be wrong...I´m just adding the refs at the moment..) Huldra (talk) 18:12, 2 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I think Petersen has confused things a little. The Mezra'a discussed by Guerin on page 405 seems to be not so far from Deir Antar,which is a village of the modern day Bint Jbeil District in Lebanon. Also, on the page Municipalities of Lebanon, under the Tyre District, there is listed a Mazraat Mechref, which seems to fit with Guerin's Mezra'a Mechref much better than our Mazra'a.

I still haven't figured out which one of the above Mazraa's discussed by Guerin is ours, but I don't thhink its the one on page 405. Cheers, my dear, and wonderful work so far. Sorry my own contribs have been negligible to date. Tiamut^talk 10:17, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I think I've found our Mazra'a in Guerin on page 163 of ptie. Galilée (t. 1-2); Volume 3, Part 2 of Description géographique, historique et archéologique de la Palestine. Its listed as close to al-Zeeb, which means its in the right area. I'll add what it says now. Tiamut^talk 10:55, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, looking at another copy of the same document here, it looks like that there might have been a Mazraa in the Jordan valley area. There is a Kerak there after all. My bad. But useful for User:Tiamut/Aga, no? :) Tiamut^talk 11:20, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removed from article:[edit]

I have removed the following from the article: "[The population is primarily Muslim,] mainly of Turkish origins from modern Bursa, Turkey"

Now, this was inserted by an IP back in October 2008 [1]..and I just cannot find anything whatsoever to indicate that this is true. No sources that I have read about the place indicate that the population came from anywhere else, so I have removed it. Cheers, Huldra (talk) 22:43, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
