Looney Tunes Cartoons

I heard from Jerry Beck that the series, Looney Tunes Cartoons will be on HBO Max as well. --DukeyDukeyDoo (talk) 20:52, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

Can you provide a link? (Unless you literally heard from Jerry Beck.) Trivialist (talk) 22:40, 22 September 2019 (UTC)

Should we make a new page for Max Originals?

I feel like it's getting lengthy enough to warrant one, and all the other streaming services get a dedicated page at a certain length. What do you guys think?

Service trailer

Are we able to use the trailer for the service for a source on projects that don’t get formal announcements or coverage elsewhere?--Simmerdon3448 (talk) 01:47, 30 October 2019 (UTC)

The logo should be updated to this. Can be found here. The old one could be featured in the body as the logo used during the initial announcement but the new one should be in the infobox. Jmj713 (talk) 01:51, 30 October 2019 (UTC)

Official Release Date

Does anybody know what the official release date is? Is it May 1st?

With only 10 days left in April, and unless there is confirmation... We might be getting HBO Max on May 1st. --DukeyDukeyDoo (talk) 23:17, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Wrong Release Date

It is supposed to be April 27th, Not May 27th. They need to fix it.--Ajacraig2011 (talk) 17:20, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

Do you have a cite for the April date? GoPats (talk) 19:53, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
Yes! I got it right here. Here's a link: https://www.ubergizmo.com/2020/04/hbo-max-april-27/--Ajacraig2011 (talk) 21:24, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
That source is clearly incorrect, given HBO Max’s own Twitter says May 27. Rusted AutoParts 21:30, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
Maybe they're right HBO Max were lying.--Ajacraig2011 (talk) 22:20, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
Are you suggesting that instead of using HBO Max's official account as a reliable source, we instead use an UberGizmo link that's giving a "404: The page you are looking for cannot be found"? Come on now.... GoPats (talk) 22:42, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
I meant to say that link, https://www.ubergizmo.com/2020/04/hbo-max-april-27/. --Ajacraig2011 (talk) 23:41, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
Well it's clearly an incorrect date so  Not done. Rusted AutoParts 23:46, 24 April 2020 (UTC)
The correct date is May 27, But I looked at HBO Max’s Twitter that says May 27, this release date is a fake. --Ajacraig2011 (talk) 00:09, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
How? It's HBO Max themselves saying this. Rusted AutoParts 17:31, 25 April 2020 (UTC)
Also, all top reliable sources with high reputation like Variety, TheVerge, CNBC, WSJ... not to mention HBO website and other WarnerMedia sites... are all saying May 27. Insisting a date change based on some random website that lacks any credibility is just a waste of people's time. — Starforce13 21:14, 25 April 2020 (UTC)

Does anybody know anything about the Cartoon Network shows coming to the service? I try to research but my attempts haven't gotten so far.

So far i think know these because they either shown up on my pre-order email, promos, and the interface they had put in the presentation last October. This list is pretty short so yeah come up with some recommendations and i'll edit onto this page and the HBO Max wiki page, too. Scplisyo (talk) 05:01, 10 May 2020 (UTC) Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Powerpuff Girls (2016; don't know about the original), Ben 10:Alien Force, Craig of the Creek, Dexter's Laboratory , Mao Mao:Heroes of Pure Heart, and possibly Teen Titans Go!,

As far as I know, Steven Universe, The Powerpuff Girls (both the original and revival seasons), Adventure Time (and the new Distant Lands specials) and a couple of Adult Swim shows are coming to the service. Once the service premieres we should have a better list of what exactly is on the platform. ShadowCyclone talk 05:21, 10 May 2020 (UTC)
Well, i found a couple of more on the interface so i'm going to list them here. Victor and Valentino, Clarence, We Bare Bears, Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, Infinity Train, and Apple and Onion. Scplisyo talk,/spanScplisyo (talk) 18:18, 10 May 2020 (UTC)

"launched"

Why does it say it launched on the 27th? It hasn't happened yet.

Wikipedia doesn't pre-emptively employ edits for future events in present-tense, does it? Scientificaldan (talk) 06:19, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

The Snyder Cut

I have removed the sub-section added by an IP about "The Snyder Cut" per WP:UNDUEWEIGHT. While this may be relevant on Justice League (film) article, it doesn't belong here. HBO Max will contain thousands of movies/tv shows, many with a lot of media coverage. Dedicating an entire sub-section or even a paragraph to just one version of one movie is undue weight. If you feel strongly about it, please explain your reasoning here; but please do not add it back. — Starforce13 22:14, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

I support this removal and concur with the rationale behind it. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 23:50, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
Support moving to the film's article as being more appropriate as it is a different release of the film. Spshu (talk) 14:05, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
It's their biggest selling point right now.

Just like quibi had Reno 911. Scientificaldan (talk) 06:20, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

Removal of the section does not mean it cannot be mention. Perhaps, mention it in the lead, but that seems like a opinion, if sourcable as one of their biggest selling point and along with the content available (with wlinks to its section, if any, at the movie's article). Not a whole sub-section. Spshu (talk) 13:55, 27 May 2020 (UTC)

In 2 countries

HBO Max is another non American exclusive HBO streaming service, it was confirmed that it wasn’t just in the United States and its territories, it was in Palau also, HBO Now is only in the United States while HBO Go is in the United States and other countries. Parksksis (talk) 21:09, 20 June 2020 (UTC)

Content providers

I've severely trimmed the section as many of the entries are unsourced. I'm borderline tempted to add an HTML comment insisting on a source for any new entries so the section doesn't balloon into a giant unsourced mess. Feel free to add any back that can be sourced properly. —Locke Coletc 17:06, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Animation365 (talk) 13:31, 10 March 2022 (UTC)The last day to stream 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures films on HBO Max was December 31, 2022 because Disney+ and Hulu assume the full pay-one rights to those films in the future.

Merge proposal with Discovery+ article

I propose merging Discovery+ into HBO Max. My reason is the upcoming merger of both streaming platforms (formed by the merger of both parent companies). It would be less confusing to navigate.

* Support: This seems like the reasonable direction to go once the two streaming services have merged, then once the new name for the service is announced, move the HBO Max article to the new name. vistadan 23:41, 19 March 2022 (UTC)

It sounds like a wise decision. Let's make sure to save the information for both articles. MegaSmike46 (talk) 20:34, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
The article mentions a merger of the apps as a possibility. Has the app merger been officially announced? If so, it needs to be cited in the articles. If not, than this is premature. Also, without knowing exactly how they're going to merge the two apps, moving this article might be wrong. If they're basically going to add D+ content to the HBO Max app and rename it, then yes, moving it to the new title would be correct. BilCat (talk) 20:43, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
  • Not Yet: I'm not sure if those two article should be merged right away since the merger isn't happening for another year, nor does anyone know anything about it. Also, both services had a different startup history, which will be confusing for a history and launch section. kpgamingz (rant me) 11:33, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
  • Oppose: They are still two separate services. When the new service is formally announced with a name, we may have a situation where it is given a separate article, and both Discovery+ and HBO Max are designated as defunct once it officially launches. "Less confusing to navigate" is not how Wikipedia works. ViperSnake151  Talk  15:02, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

Question about HBO Max-Discovery+ merger

@King10: why is international expansion of HBO Max cancelled? Because of plans to merger with Discovery+? Do you have any reliable source for this? -St3095 (?) 08:43, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

Yes. Warner Bros Discovery announced that new streaming service will appear in Americas in 2023 and in Europe in 2024, which means it will replace HBO Max in its current form. In new teritories the new service will debut not earlier than 2024, and not as HBO Max in its current form. Here's the source. It means clearly that HBO Max start for Estonia, Greece, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania and Turkey, previously announced for 2022, is now cancelled for 2022. I understand that a new service which will merge HBO Max and Discovery+. If you think that this new service will be just the successor of HBO Max with Discovery+ merged into it (meaning Wiki will keep this new service in current HBO Max article, maybe with changed name), feel free to revert my edition and change dates from 2022 to TBA. Where to Mention HBO Max Deletions?

With Warner Bros. recently using Scoob 2 and Batgirl for tax write-offs, I feel like HBO Max deleting 36 titles, mostly animated and for children, from their platform entirely deserves a mention on here somewhere. Infinity Train, Summer Camp Island, and multiple other shows were pulled entirely. I'm not sure if it should have its own section or be placed under one of the existing areas.

Turkey

hbo max has a 10-year license in Turkey, it's coming. Should it be added to the Launch section? https://shiftdelete.net/hbo-max-turkiyede-yayin-hayatina-basliyor Eray08yigit (talk) 15:05, 1 October 2022 (UTC)

Baltics and Russian audiotracks

HBO Max added Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian and Russian audiotracks for some content a long time ago, i think 2 months ago, they can be still be seen if you access through HBO Max Adria. Should it be added somewhere?

4K format

They're many affected HBO originals and Max Originals not having 4K UHDTV HDR and Dolby Atmos/Vision format, these are still unavailable yet as WBD is trying to upgrade to include that format. CastJared (talk) 02:29, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

Only GOT, HOTD, and TLOU are available in a 4K format. CastJared (talk) 02:30, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

Rebranding

Posting this now as a preemptive measure. WBD is expected to make the announcement of HBO Max's rebranding in the coming weeks. When that happens, please do not move this article to Max (streaming service) or request for it to be moved until the day when the rebranding takes effect. An RM is unnecessary and would only be a waste of editors' time, so please do not attempt to start one. Thanks. InfiniteNexus (talk) 15:50, 13 March 2023 (UTC)

Actually, should Max get its own article, rather than a move? InfiniteNexus (talk) 18:27, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
Considering how large this article is (186+ kb), I'd support a new article. BilCat (talk) 01:44, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
I've started Draft:Max (streaming service), which is mostly a fork of this article's § History section. It can be moved tomorrow if there are no objections. InfiniteNexus (talk) 05:06, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
What exactly happens tomorrow (now today US ET)? BilCat (talk) 05:22, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
Tomorrow (Apr 12, U.S. time) is when WBD will officially announce Max. InfiniteNexus (talk) 05:32, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
Gotcha! And thanks for the archived version. The NYT buried the lead, and then the subscription info popped up before I'd read very far, so I missed the key part. BilCat (talk) 05:42, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
I added a {{R with possibilities}} tag to the redirect to alert users to the draft, and that should also keep over-eager users from trying to move the HBO Max article there. (I checked just now and saw that you're a page mover, so you'll have no problem moving the draft when it ready.) BilCat (talk) 05:48, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
Article now live at Max (streaming service). InfiniteNexus (talk) 17:32, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, and it all looks good. BilCat (talk) 18:34, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
I disagree with the separate article. Especially with the developments that have occurred with Discovery+ remaining operational, HBO Max and Max are one and the same as a continuation of the former. We give into exaggeration via PR if we treat Max as a "brand new" service.ViperSnake151  Talk  20:10, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
We actually didn't consider that when discussing it above, but it does add to reasons to keep them separate. WBD states that the app itself will be new, and the service will be a successor to both. From reading between the lines, the retained D+ service probably won't keep all the same content it currently has. (I also have a hunch it will be phased out eventually, probably within 2 to 3 years.) Anyway, the current HBO Max article is very large, being 75% percent over the recommended article size, which makes editing more difficult for rhose of use with lesser devices. As such, something would have to be split off, as the article would continue to grow. So this is more an editorial decision than one based WBD's PR which is actually fairly common on Wikipedia when we have corporate or product merges. You're of course welcome to propose a merge, and get broader input on this, but don't do it without a clear consensus again. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 21:32, 12 April 2023 (UTC)
A misplaced merge discussion has been started at Talk:Max (streaming service)#Merge with HBO Max. Hopefully, someone more competent than the OP there can straightened it out. I'm headed off-line, so I don't have time to fix it. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 08:29, 13 April 2023 (UTC)

Max streaming service

What happened to the wiki page for the Max streaming service that is set to replace HBO Max? Jstewart2007 (talk) 22:06, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Per the above discussion #Merge with HBO Max, Max (streaming service) was merged within this article, and once the rename takes effect, this article will be renamed to the "Max" title as they are essentially the same service. Trailblazer101 (talk) 22:12, 12 May 2023 (UTC)
That makes sense. But if that’s the case, why are there articles like HBO GO and HBO NOW? Jstewart2007 (talk) 14:50, 17 May 2023 (UTC)
Because those were launched far before HBO Max's existence and Go is partly active while Now has enough of its own operational history that merges for those are not needed. Trailblazer101 (talk) 15:37, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

Max article

It will be the new Max article on May 23, 2023 is that right? LippyLarue (talk) 18:27, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

Yes it will. The Corvette ZR1 (talk) 17:43, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
will it be the same Max article, or will it be the HBO Max article with a new name? Jstewart2007 (talk) 14:53, 17 May 2023 (UTC)
As has been explained throughout this talk page, this article will retain all its contents and on May 23 when the rebranding occurs, it will be renamed to Max (streaming service), with BO Max becoming a redirect to the new title. Trailblazer101 (talk) 15:42, 17 May 2023 (UTC)

Original programming

I know it was decided to keep HBO Max and Max on the same article, but for the programming lists, I think they should be split. See discussion at Talk:List of Max original programming#Split. InfiniteNexus (talk) 16:51, 23 May 2023 (UTC)

Bring back HBO Max page

I don't think it was a good idea to delete the page for HBO Max entirely. HBO Max and Max are two separate streaming services. I think we should bring back the HBO Max page so the services can be differentiated. WiinterU (talk) 20:57, 23 May 2023 (UTC)

The page was not deleted. All of the HBO Max contents are still in this article. HBO Max was just renamed. They are the same service, just Max has a few changes. Trailblazer101 (talk) 20:59, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
