Personal Life?[edit]

"On June 17, 2000, Hasselbeck married Sarah Hasselbeck. They have two daughters, Annabelle and Mallory, and a son, Henry."

Matthew?[edit]

Hasselbeck has made it clear that he prefers to be called Matthew Hasselbeck, hence the Seahawks' announcer Steve Raible consistently calling him that as well as Coach Holmgren. Shouldn't his Wikipedia page title reflect that? I don't want to just move it because it may mess up links and I'm not familiar with how to do that properly. A point worth considering is that most people will still search for him as "Matt" not "Matthew." Is there a way to just make a search for Matt lead to a page for "Matthew Hasselbeck?" Or should we just put it in the article that he prefers Matthew? Is it really fair to even metion the name Matt Hasselbeck, in the sense that he is a good quaterback?

Most people know him as Matt. In fact, the FOX Sports announcers simply call him Hasselbeck or Matt. However, it would not hurt to redirect Matthew Hasselbeck page to this article. Also, I believe that it says that Hasselbeck prefers to be called "Matthew" somewhere in this article. --ShadowJester07 15:52, 24 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trent Dilfer[edit]

Is it correct to refer to Trent Dilfer as Hasselbeck's successor as QB? Hasselbeck was briefly benched for Dilfer during his first season before winning the starting job back, but if you are going to say that he has been QB until "present" I don't think you can indicate a successor. See the comments on Seattle Seahawks Starting Quarterbacks on this. The choice is either we make things staggeringly unclear by putting every minor stint as the Seahawks QB or we acknowledge that Trent Dilfer did, in fact, start his first game for Seattle after Matt Hasselbeck.

Another alternative would be to ignore Dilfer's time as the Seahawk starting QB (and several other relatively minor QBs in Seahawk history) and focus on only the Zorn-Krieg-forgettable early 90's-Moon-Kitna-Hasselbeck run.

The bottom line is that the sucession box works really well for things like Presidents, but is not strong on positions that can - and do - change on a weekly basis. But if we're going to use it, lets get the ground rules clear on it and follow them. No, it's True[edit]

I think the purpose of Wikipedia is to provide accurate and useful information. Is it accurate to say that Trent Dilfer succeeded Matt Hasselbeck? Well, it was only accurate for a couple of weeks over 4 years ago. It isn't accurate today and therefore the information needs to be updated to be useful.

Your chronology of starting quarterbacks makes no sense when ranked only by date of their first start. You just end up with artificial nonsense like Steve Myer being the starter immediately before Dave Krieg! Instead, there has to be allowance for the duration of their reign. Minor characters can be included, but would be "within" the reign of the real starter. For example, Seneca Wallace. His reign as starter will be within Hasselbeck's reign. His page should show that he is both preceded and (soon to be) succeeded as starter by Hasselbeck (which is accurate and useful info). Wallace does NOT now become the Seahawks starting quarterback for the indefinite future even after Hasselbeck comes back around November 19. If Hass starts every game for, say, the next 5 years, your system would have Wallace appearing to be the starter during that time. Nonsense.

This conversation should be taking place on the Seahawk Starting QB page. Feel free to present your alternative solution on that page, get buy in, and then make the changes. That is the wikipedia system and it works well. Simply changing the pages leads us to contradictory things like your placing Trent Dilfer as Hasselbeck's predecessor - a claim that makes no sense under either of our definitions. --Don Sowell 21:49, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

POV/bias[edit]

A good portion of this page is dangerously close to being a Matt Hasselbeck fan club bio. Also...do we need a Green Bay Packers 2nd string string quarterbacks[sic] template? Come on.

I support removing the second string QB box. It is not meaningful from an encyclopedia standpoint since it's hardly the type of information that readers are really looking for. It's not meaningful from a logistics standpoint since it's certainly not going to be tracked for all of the Packer's second stringers. As shown by the Seahawk starter box, it's hard enough to both define the details of the starter and make it consistantly meaningful across all of the quarterbacks who have had that role. Boston College High School?[edit]

Someone added to his personal information, that he attended "Boston College High School in preperation for Boston College" which is a complete lie, so I deleted it from the article. Retire?[edit]

I'm aware he got really banged up this season and I wouldn't be surprised to see read this if I opened the newspaper. However, the article supposedly claiming he, "is considering retiring," doesn't even have the word, "retire" in it. Not to mention the article is from October, so I don't see how it could include something he purportedly thought, "as of January 2009." Either the citation was a mistake or the statement is just plain wrong. Someone should clarify this before it just gets deleted out right.

Stat Change[edit]

The following stat is listed for a Seahawks franchise record held by Hasselbeck on this page: "Highest completion percentage, career (min. 200 attempts) – 60.2%" According to the NFL's records on Wilson, Wilson easily beats out Hasselbeck in this statistic, having a (current) career completion percentage of 63.6% in 800 attempts. I've never edited actual statistic before, and I wanted to make sure this is adequately sourced to not be considered "original research" - do I need to link to an article that explicitly talks about this? Main Picture[edit]

I changed the main picture to reflect his time with the Seahawks as it's the best known part of his career and when he was a starter. It best reflects his career as a whole than the short spell with the Colts as with the Seahawks he lead them to the Super Bowl and earned three Pro Bowl appearances.
