new material, also re the neutrality template that was placed in 2011 but had no section here yet[edit]

I notice the template on the article says that it is being challenged for a lack of neutrality; after a preliminary scan, I don't have time for more, I see it does mention social et al concerns, I do note that the sources given are heavily in the company's and mining company's end of things, and "more balanced" coverage is needed. The following article is only four days old, so it's understandable that nothing about it is yet in the article; I do not have time to add it, but hopefully somebody can make use of this fairly shortly:

This passage at the end of the article bears mention and quotation here; I have linked the Goldcorp article in question, and also the Guardian's article on the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights' report on Canadian mining company activities in Latin America, in the same spots as was linked in the Guardian article :

Asked about the other allegations – the intimidation, the threats, the social division. . . – Marks directed me to a Goldcorp webpage where “you’ll find common myths that have been exposed repeatedly as falsehoods.” This lists eleven such “myths”, which Goldcorp refutes, including ones that the company contaminates the local water supply, that it doesn’t consult local communities, that it doesn’t respect human rights, that communities around the mine are negatively impacted, and that it intimidates opposition.
Goldcorp is just one of many Canadian companies currently operating in Latin America amid growing concern about their social and environmental impacts. Earlier this year the IACHR was presented with a report written by more than 30 civil society organizations about 22 large-scale mining projects in nine Latin American countries – Marlin among them – which argues that between 50% and 70% of Latin American mining is now done by Canadian firms and that Canada’s authorities, while aware of the projects mentioned in the report, continue “to provide political, legal and financial support to companies which commit or tolerate human rights abuses.”
“Canadian mining is getting a really bad reputation,” someone in Guatemala, who I won’t name either, told me. “Canada is hell.”

I hope that those who have taken an interest in this article in view of correcting "unbalanced" coverage see fit to include this material, including in any passage citing or alluding to the Goldcorp article criticized and debunked by the IACHR report mentioned above.Skookum1 (talk) 15:19, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

note re possible COI editors[edit]

Anyone who is a mining consultant or affiliated with mining associations, please read WP:COI and bear in mind that, especially if you are under contract to Goldcorp, or to a mining industry association, you should not be directly editing this article because of WP:Paid editing (policy) and WP:Paid editing (guideline) and related material. Full disclosure is expected and de rigeur under such circumstances. For my own part, I am just an interested reader of the news and a long-time Wikipdian with 86,000 edits + to my experienced here, and will always support genuine NPOV; discounting my own preferences and beliefs if valid citations are presented in a balanced and fair mannner. I definitely am not a paid editor, as my landlady knows all too well.Skookum1 (talk) 15:23, 16 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
