Article Improvements & Additional Information

Hi,

In the interest of transparency I would like to disclose that Markit is a Public Relations client of mine.

I am seeking to improve this article and develop it further. I am proposing to suggest additions and changes via this talk page to do so.

My talk page is SarahLouiseRoberts - please get in touch if you have any questions or feedback.

Info Box

Hi,

As previously stated Markit is a client and I am proposing some improvements to the article via the talk pages.

The first additions and changes I suggest making are to the information box.

- Markit is present in 10 countries, I propose changing "20 offices" to "20 offices in 10 countries". Source: https://www.markit.com/Contact-Us#OurLocations

- In order for the information box to be complete I would suggest adding "Kevin Gould, President", "Jeff Gooch, CFO" and "Adam Kansler, CAO & General Counsel". Source: https://www.markit.com/Company/Our-Team

- In the interest of completeness I suggest adding a section to the box "Customers: banks, hedge funds, asset managers, central banks, regulators, auditors, fund administrators and insurance companies". Source: https://www.markit.com/Company/About-Markit

- Given the huge range and number of products Markit offers, again for completeness, I would suggest replacing the current products section with "More than 40 products covering all asset classes in the over-the-counter markets for pre- and post-trade operations". Source: https://www.markit.com/Product/

Again, any questions or comments you might have please reach out to me via my talk page.

Infoboxes are not meant to be the equivalent of a trade directory; details like CAO and General Counsel, and lists of markets into which they sell, are overkill.
We really prefer information from neutral, reliable, third-party sources, rather than from the subject of the article. What your client considers notable is not necessarily what other folks would consider notable. --Orange Mike | Talk 14:52, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for looking at this Orange Mike. While I understand your point about Infoboxes not being trade directories I have found various instances of this type of information being included in the Infoboxes of Markit's peers. MSCI's page lists the CEO, CFO and COO as key people, Factset's office information states "26, in 12 countries" and Dow Jones & Company's page lists the full range of products offered by the company. I also take your point regarding third party sources, but given that these proposed changes are facts rather than opinion I thought the company website would suffice - if I were to provide media coverage noting these facts would you consider making the changes?

1. "Completeness" is not one of our goals, especially for a small firm such as this.
2. "This stuff appears in other articles" is not a valid argument for retention. It may be a pointer to other articles that could use some trimming back, instead. Dow Jones is a major global player compared to a little firm like Markit, and is watched by a myriad third-party sources; but that article may still need to be looked at. --Orange Mike | Talk 12:45, 19 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi Mike, thank you for taking the time to look at this and giving your input. I understand your reasoning behind not making some of these changes but I would like to present an argument for why some of them should be made. Kevin Gould is the President of Markit and also the co-founder, therefore I believe he should be listed alongside Lance Uggla in the key people section. I believe by including that Markit has 20 offices in 10 countries it will allow people reading the article to quickly get a sense of the size and scope of the company. Additionally the section on customers succinctly explains the businesses that Markit serves and would aid understanding of what the business does. Do let me know if you disagree with any of these arguments, if so, please still consider making those changes that I may have convinced you on.

Thanks
