Suggested refs from AFC phase[edit]

Light bulb iconB A few suggested refs (use http://reftag.appspot.com to turn the URLs into footnotes for GoogleBooks). Some of these are "snippet view" so unfortunately you can't always see what you need, but sometimes the search results on GoogleBooks will actually show more than the "view" does, so just searching the song title in gBooks might find some useful quotes. A number of serious works on Caribbean gender studies mention the song, and a little of that would really help add some academic insight to the article:

Uncertainty[edit]

The para starting "There is some uncertainty about the song's origins." does not make sense. There is a 1936 recording of the song by King Radio. Therefore it is not possible that a songwriter whose career started after WWII wrote the song. Many calypsos were plagiarised and copyrighted in the US around this time (e.g. Rum and Coca-Cola, Zombie Jamboree, Banana Boat Song). I will leave a decent time for replies here, then remove/rewrite this paragraph. James Fryer (talk) 18:15, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've tried to give some relative certainty to the son'g authorship, though it remains an open issue. Nicmart (talk) 02:42, 16 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
