Edits[edit]

Great article! I made a few minor edits to the page as far as grammatical and style-based fixes. I re-worded some of the information in the Mating section to be less anthropomorphizing. In addition, I italicized the name Mallophorain the Importance to Humans section, and introduced another line to the lead section, and Mimicry section to provide further clarification. Finally, I found two additional primary sources on the fly that I found helpful to include. One of these sources discussed the defense mechanisms that hosts use in protecting themselves from the fly. The other (in a new section I introduced called Physiology) discusses antennal structures in the fly, and their use in odor detection. Best of luck with the page! Hello Elly. I believe this fly article is a good start with a good breadth of information, however some sections are quite short and can be expanded on such as “Parental Care,” “Mimicry,” “Physiology,” and “Importance to humans.” I edited the lead section so that it showed more of the highlights of the body of the article as well as combed through and made some parallelity changes (sometimes the fly was referred to as singular, but mostly plural, so I tried to change the wording so it’s referred to as plural unless it made sense not to). There is currently no image for the fly in the taxonomy box, so I added one. I also linked to other Wikipedia pages when appropriate for readers that are interested in learning about tangential topics and made sentence level revisions to improve the flow of the information (for example, once the fly’s whole scientific name is said it can just be abbreviated to M. ruficauda). I would recommend seeing how “large” the fly is just to avoid subjectivity in the description. I would also recommend adding a section that exclusively talks about the fly’s interactions with other organisms like its host, for example (I think the Diptera recommends an “enemy” subsection). Finally, some sections do not have any citations...even if the information comes from a more general source I would go ahead and cite it. Good luck of this page! Nice job with the article, I thought it was well-written and covered a wide range of aspects of the fly. I mainly made minor changes in word choices and sentence structure. This included dividing potentially run-on sentences into two, as well as changing words to reflect comparisons (e.g. "strong" to "stronger" in the Description, "create" to "generate", etc.) I also added the internal links for apicultural and ventral. I fixed the typo "they don not all encounter" and eliminated a statement about a finding being notable, as it was unnecessary given its inclusion in the article. I recommend providing citations for your material on Adult Life, Food Resources, and the last portion of Importance to Humans, as they are currently missing. Overall, however, you've done a great job so far. ArndtH (talk) 03:55, 6 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This is a very well written and researched article!I particularly liked the amount of detail in the life history section, and found that information on mimicry in this fly to be interesting and clearly presented. The only feedback I have would be to perhaps break up some of the dense paragraphs in your article into distinct paragraphs so it is easier to read. Furthermore I think that the pest activity of this fly is important and that section of this article could use some more detail, especially as there are multiple sources cited on the same.Agandhi7 (talk) 04:52, 8 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Article Creation and Expansion[edit]

I created this article and have added a taxobox and a little over 1000 words on Mallophora ruficauda, using peer-reviewed primary sources for my information. I used the WikiProject Diptera article format guidelines to structure the page. I also added a picture. I'd like to locate more pictures if I can, but I'm having trouble finding ones that are licensed appropriately for use on Wikipedia. EllyGrant (talk) 17:22, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
