Addition of Ayyappa sect and temples in Malaysia[edit]

Ayyappa temples in Malaysia can also be included in the Hinduism section? Largest Ayyappa temple in the Southeast Asia is located in Tebrau, Johor Bahru. And there are many Ayyappa temples alike all around Malaysia. Ayyappa worship has also influenced the majority Tamil people like Murugan worship is to Malayalees.

Estimated population of Malayalees in Malaysia based on religions (2020)[edit]

Malayali Muslims

Indian Muslims in Malaysia (2011 census) - 78702 Even if 50% (which is impossible but I am keeping it as 50 for estimation purpose) of them are Malayalees then their population will be 39351.

OR

According to 2011 census of Malaysia, Muslims who spoke Tamil was 3.48% of the total 1840000 Indians in Malaysia. Taking this into account, Tamil Muslims make 64032 of the total population of Indians. The same census says total Indian Muslim population in 2011 was 78702. Therefore, the remaining Muslims can be considered as mostly of Malayalee heritage which is 14670 or 6.4% of all Malaysian Malayalees. This was in the year of 2011. This figure might be over counted too as again there are Tamil, Malayalee and other ethnic Indian Muslims in Malaysia. Even if we consider the Muslim population have grown to 10% of all Malayalis and another 10% for the Christians, Hindu Malayalees would still make a majority 80%.

Malayali Christians

Indian Christians in Malaysia (2011 census) - 114281 If 15% (according to this article @ Christianity section) of Indian Christians in Malaysia are Malayalees then their population will be 17142.

Total Malayalee population in Malaysia - 228900

Therefore, Muslims - 17.19%

Christians - 7.5%

Taking into account other religions - 0.05%

Total: 24.74%

The remaining are Hindus which is 75.26 (172407)

There's no way Hindus constitute a mere 44%;

Even if it's just a theory, it's not logical at all.

Note:

1. You can never use Kerala's religious percentage to represent Malayalis in Malaysia

2. In this case consider that I have actually overcounted (just for the statistics) the percentage of Malayali Muslims as there should be more of Tamil Muslims (64032 according to 2011 census) and North Indian Muslims. There are possibilities that the Malayali Muslims are just 15% of the overall Indian Muslims population just like the Indian Christians. Because many Malayali Muslims have assimilated into the majority "Malay" category (mainly for Bumiputera privileges or getting married to a Malay) whom we don't count as Malayalis. So the Malayali Muslims population could be even lesser than what it has been estimated here. Therefore, there's no way Muslims and Christians making over 50% of the total Malayali population in Malaysia.

3. So even if the Christian Malayalee percentage is higher than the Muslim counterpart, there is nothing to be surprised as the Malayali Muslim assimilation into the Malay category matters here.

Malaysian Malayali → Malaysian Malayalees – Ethnic groups are usually titled as WP:PLURAL. Showiecz (talk) 01:44, 2 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it should be plural, but I'm not sure why we would change the spelling, particularly when the main article still spells it Malayali. I'd support Malaysian Malayalis, unless there's some good reason to be inconsistent here. Extraordinary Writ (talk) 05:17, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
