Untitled[edit]

I created this page after completing a ton of work with these cells, and having to write some of their history. Additional help or input is appreciated!Timisstuck (talk) 14:09, 3 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

references are inadequate or misleading[edit]

This article needs a direct literature reference to the original establishment of the MDCK cell line by Madin and Darby.

Pubmed has only one 1958 entry for Madin and Darby entitled " Established Kidney Cell Lines of Normal Adult BOVINE and OVINE Origin. " Reference 2 is to the ATCC (a tissue culture clearing house) which does not have any literature references. References 3 and 4 are to papers that did not use the MDCK cell line (3 used calf cells, 4 used a primary cell isolate). Reference 5 is to "personal communication" which I thought would have been disallowed on Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.52.207.45 (talk) 06:13, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If a reference to the original establishment of the cell line can't be found, I suggest

Proc Soc Exp Biol Med 1966 Jul;122(3):931-5. doi: 10.3181/00379727-122-31293. Characterization of an established line of canine kidney cells (MDCK) C R Gaush, W L Hard, T F Smith

It should be cited in the first line of the article, at the first mention of MDCK.
