I'm new to any Wiki, so please forgive my lack of wikigraces.

My interest in this entry is simply to note that the requirement that all foreign goods be marked, in English, with the country of origin (i.e. that led to articles being marked z.B. "Germany" or "Made in Germany") does not stem, as stated, from the UK's Merchandise Marks Act of 1887. Rather, it comes from the US's McKinley Act of 1890. My intent is not to write or rewrite the present Wiki entry. I've written at length about such markings for horological publications. Rather, it is simply to point out that this MMA 1887 claim is wrong.

If the contributor(s) who wrote the present entry choose to keep it, then it would be appropriate to quote the requirement as found in the MMA 1887. It as well as the McKinley Act of 1890 are available online.

By the way, forms such as "Western Germany" or "West-Germany" are Germlishisms. And if one is going to do an entry on Made in Germany a good place to start would be with Realeaux's (in)famous statement that the German products in Philadelphia in 1876 were "billig und schlecht." And compare that view with the changes made by the Chicago world's fair of 1893.

Rammstein's new album may also warrant a link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Made_in_Germany_1995%E2%80%932011 (82.5.189.83 (talk) 17:06, 24 November 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Examples[edit]

Similiar to Made in Italy, prominent examples of various sectors should be added here. Cheers, Horst-schlaemma (talk) 16:03, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
