Muslin

I've tagged the assertion that muslins are named for this town as dubious - its unsourced and conflicts with the info in the muslin article. sassf (talk) 16:32, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Section 11.1

I think the section 11.1 includes names that do not have any corresponding qualifications. I'm editing it.Elncid (talk) 10:21, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Name

The name Masulipatnam is more appropriate. It should be brought back to usage by the new Government of new state of Andhra Pradesh. The name is derived from ancient Maisolos or Masulia which traded with Greeks and Romans. The name "Machilipatnam" gives a wrong notion that it is associated with the Hindi word Machili which means "Fish". The local town folk should agitate for renaming.Kumarrao (talk) 09:18, 4 September 2014 (UTC)

It is not a forum to have such anti-government notions. Please stop such things as per wiki policies.--Vin09 (talk) 09:26, 4 September 2014 (UTC)
A suggestion was made in well-meaning manner. It cannot be construed ad ant-government.Kumarrao (talk) 09:29, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
Then what was this The local town folk should agitate for renaming.? You can ask for rename as per wiki but not provoking local people. I hope you take it positively.--Vin09 (talk) 12:15, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

This page does not desevrve B class status --172.216.69.126 02:47, 23 August 2007 (UTC)
  • History section is good with good citations i think from the first para(Introduction) content can be moved to history section
  • Geography section is good , but one picture about cyclone is sufficient
  • adminstration needs to be expanded involvuing revnue divisions in this mandal
  • Economy needs to be expanded
  • tourist section is good
  • Education section needs shortened
  • Famous personalities list should be expanded
  • Industries needs a mention
  • transport section needs complete refreshemnt
these are my suggestions--S172142230149 02:53, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

There will not be revenue divisions in the mandal, but the mandal is in revenue division and already mentioned in lead.--Vin09(talk) 05:52, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

Naming

The name Machilipatnam is a corruption of ancient Masulipatam that had its origin in ancient Maisolia or Maisolos. It had nothing to do with Machili or fish. Marco Polo's Mutufillin is Motupalli port, another ancient harbour in Prakasam district. Hence, the references are removed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 14.139.94.99 (talk) 07:07, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
The port town was not founded in 14th century. It has been in existence since 2nd century BC. The name "Machilipatnam" is a corrupt form of "Masulipatam". The town was under Muslim occupation during which period "Masuli" was pronounced as "Machili" (Hindustani). The fish gate does not exist in the town. It was imaginary and hence the cited reference was wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 14.139.94.99 (talk) 10:04, 31 August 2016 (UTC)
WP:OR, provide references for your additions of last para. As of now, I've removed it. Add back with references. Also, the sentences of fish gate I've corrected it.--Vin09(talk) 07:37, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
