Did you know... that the porch of Macclesfield Castle in Macclesfield, dating from the reign of English King Henry II and the only standing part of the castle, was replaced by cottages and shops in 1932?

John Savage[edit]

There's reference to what is obviously in context this building in Hartwell et al. The Buildings of England series (pp 449, 460) as being the house of John Savage. Can anyone shed any light on this? I'm particularly interested as I've written an article on Macclesfield Town Hall, which apparently has stones from this building in its courtyard, and would like to DYK it on this fact but the house is referred to as "John Savage's fortified town house".
