Maarrat al-Naasan

Actually, I think that's the large town of Maarrat al-Nu'man not Maarrat al-Naasan. Yazan (talk) 21:17, 21 September 2012 (UTC)

Emir of Aleppo

@Al Ameer son: In 2012 you added this line in to article:

During the summer of 1222, the Ayyubid emir of Aleppo, al-Salih, gained control over Ma'arrat Misrin...

But the Ayyubid emir of Aleppo at this time was Al-Aziz Muhammad. I don't have access to the source cited for the (ambiguously linked) name that appears in the article, so I didn't want to change it without a reliable source concerning this historical detail. @ShelfSkewed: Hello. The source states the following (diacritics omitted):

In the Ayyubid period, Ma'arrat Masrin often changed masters; in Djumada I 619/July 1222, al-Malik al-Salih, son of al-Malik al-Zahir Ghazi, acquired the territories of Shughr and Bakas, Rudj and Ma'arrat Masrin, which he was to exchange later, in 1227, …

But you are correct; this could be a typo on the author's part and is worth looking into further. Incidentally, this was some sloppy referencing on my part, as the author is Nikita Elisseeff, not Houtsma (who is one of the editors of the Encyclopedia of Islam).
