For context on the NHL nomination, see http://www.nps.gov/history/nhl/Fall2007Nominations.htm.

This sandbox article is being developed to be ready for announcement of the district as a U.S. national historic landmark. If/when that happens, this is to be moved to mainspace and it is to be nominated for DYK. It could be helpful to compose DYK hook alternatives, perhaps relating specifically to what can be shown in a photograph to be included in the DYK posting on the wikipedia mainpage.

comments on the article in process[edit]

And thanks also to Parkwells for copyediting. One comment: the statement that students searched one of the buildings "for riot materials" is a bit obscure. What are riot materials? I presume it is for stuff that can be thrown at other people, but it would be relevant to say whether it is paper airplanes, or harmless light chalkboard erasers, or whether it was potentially lethal bricks or canisters of deadly poison or whatever was actually thrown, if anything. doncram (talk) 14:46, 27 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The documentation never said anything about what they used from the Chemistry Building. Shoemaker Hall mentions bricks, conduit pipes, bulldozers, etc., so I'm guessing it was pretty intense haha. And btw, has any news come up about this site? I was under the impression that it would be an NHL in a few short days haha.. now it's been a few weeks! --Dudemanfellabra (talk) 18:31, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image gallery[edit]

I was in Oxford this weekend and got around to taking some pictures of the district. I uploaded them all and added them to this page, but I don't really like the way I did it. I didn't want to space them throughout the article because, frankly, it isn't long enough, but this was the only way I could think of doing it efficiently. How about following example in Detroit Financial District#Buildings section where there is a section about each building, with photo and coords of each specific building? Or browse other pretty good historic district articles listed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Register of Historic Places/Archive 38#Good historic district article examples (mentioned in wp:NRHPhelp). I recall several HD articles by lvklock that use a table of the contributing buildings; I like User:Andrew Jameson's work in the Detroit Financial District article a lot though, which does not use a table (allowing for more variation in length of each item's description, still without causing a lot of white space). I may try editing the article to move the pics to where the items are described, now, just to see how it might look. --doncram 02:43, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. In these edits I moved the pics up and included breaks to clear pic display, so they wouldn't display badly. I think it is working. This followed Detroit Financial District example mostly, but there are probably further formatting improvements there. I am leaving it now with coordinates info that needs to be fixed or deleted (all pointing to a location in Detroit actually). Please feel free to modify further or to revert back to old version. I do think this is working though, and mainly that it is best to have the photo right with the description. Good job to go get the pics, which do greatly inform this article better. --doncram 03:07, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed the coords and some display issues that arose with the {{GeoGroupTemplate}}. I agree that this is better. Maybe I'll get around to expanding each of the sections sooner or later.--Dudemanfellabra (talk) 03:42, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
