St. Patrick's day

This appeared on the main article today and I can understand why. Luton has a huge Irish community and this is part of luton life, the celebration of St. patrick's day. However, I think we need to discuss this before we make it permanent. I cannot source it but someone who could would be helpful.

The paragraphs reads:

St. Patricks Day

Luton is a huge base for Irish immigrants and those of irish descent. It's because of this that each year a week long festival is held to celebrate the Patron saint of Ireland [[St Patrick]]. This is one of the largest St. Patricks day celebrations in the country and is arranged by the Luton Irish Forum. Each year entertainers and band from all over the U.K come and perform in Market hill, Luton where the celebration is held.

Anyone who would like to comment about the relevence and 'notability' (although I don't like that word), please leave your message below. Personally, I can't see anything wrong except there doesn't seem to be a right place to put it. Again, any suggestions, make them below.

Thanks, Random articles 20:52, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

  • Without references etc i see it as limited importance. Is it really a huge festival, ive lived in Luton for years and had no idea anything on a large scale was organised. For me its not that 'notable'GazMan7 15:05, 11 February 2007 (UTC)
  • I would also agree the importance of Paddy's day to Luton in general may not be sufficient to afford inclusion in this article. --Mattdove 03:02, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
    • I've been looking around, sorting out `what links here` on the Luton page, and I've found this interesting page, Irish community in Britain, where it says that luton has an Irish community of 4.65% total population. Apparently the largest (ratio) in the UK (barring NI).
Now I know it says it needs to cite it's references, but it more or less coincides with what we know already. Luton has a huge Irish based community. Now whether we include this is up to the rest of you, but this could do with a mention, I reckon. Random articles 17:44, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

The overall concensus was to leave this paragraph out. However, a demographics section has been added instead. Thankyou Random articles 16:09, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

    • I made this topic and can see the point of those above. Luton Irish Forum The luton irish forum organises this and the above is the link to their website.

Image out of place?

I'm not sure but I think that picture of the town hall seems a bit out of place Robin 20:11, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
