From article[edit]

The article is very through and accurate. My father was a friend of Lou's and concurred with most of it. The one thing not mentioned or covered was the inconsistancy in the spelling of his name. Most of the wrestling programs have it as "THEZ" whereas many reports have his name as actually spelled as "THESZ" so perhaps his "stage name" should be shown as "THEZ"?! In my opinion, the entire article needs to be changed to reflect the fact that professional wrestling is not a competitive sport, but a show. The fights are all staged, with the fighters agreeing beforehand on the moves to be performed, and on the outcomes. It is very misleading to say that Thesz "won" the "world heavyweight championship", because it sounds as if Thesz was in actual fights and truly beat opponents in the same way, say, Joe Louis had to do to win the world championship in boxing. The reality is that Thesz was never in an actual fight, and he never truly beat anyone. Thesz' accomplishments should be written up in the same way as those of Sylvester Stallone: Stallone starred in the Rocky movies, and his accomplishments are in acting, writing and directing; the fact that "Rocky" "won" the "heavyweight title" in the movies is not an accomplishment of Stallone. And Stallone never won a real fight. In the same way, Thesz starred in professional wrestling shows, and his accomplishments are in acting, and perhaps in choreographing the "bouts". But the fact that the character he protrayed in those shows "won" the "title" was not an accomplishment of Thesz anymore than "Rocky's". And like Stallone, Thesz never won a real fight. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.239.220.249 (talk) 16:07, 22 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Alleged birth name of Lajos Tiza removed[edit]

The chapter 2 endnotes from Lou's autobiography are very clear on this: "A persistent story among wrestling historians is that his given name was Lajos Tiza, but Lou said that was simply the phonetic spelling of his name in Hungarian. His sisters, who survived him, agreed emphatically that his given name was Aloysius Martin Thesz".2A02:C7D:3CBD:3100:5D6C:B8D0:2F98:EE53 (talk) 15:03, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

December 29, 1937[edit]

This requires correction. He won the Boston AWA title from Bronko Nagurski earlier in 1937. Dec 29 was a title vs title match against NWAssociation champ Marshall. Thesz's win was not ratified by the NWAssociation, but the latter portion of his Boston AWA title run from this match up to the loss to Steve Casey was later recognised retrospectively by the NWAlliance as being Thesz's first reign of six.
