Untitled[edit]

This page should be rethought. Its nature implies a complete catalog, but there were at least several torpedoes named by the names offered here, e.g.: The Mark VII torpedo designation also belonged to an 18-in Royal Navy torpedo introduced around 1909.

Greater attention to this page might make it worthy, but at the moment I wonder if its positive attributes might not be outweighed by its omissions. At the very least, I'd suggest a good caveat paragraph at the head indicating whatever its true scope is (e.g.: "This list shows some examples of torpedoes at use by various navies in the years ...")

I agree, DulcetTone; the page needs a deep re-org. I clicked on the first Mark XIV I came upon and it linked to a British torpedo--I was looking for the American one which was so much trouble in WWII. Binksternet 17:05, 28 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Year[edit]

What is the 'year' referred to in the table?

  • Date design work started?
  • In service date?
  • Out of service date?

Merger proposal[edit]

  • Agree, merge all three to list of torpedoes and use a sortable table. This will be a little elaborate as some sizes are normally expressed in inches (21 inch for example) and others in metric {650mm for example) but it's no great problem with care. Sortable dims[edit]

I think that every dimension and weight we list should be in its own sortable column. No cell should contain two different values, except SI and metric values for the same characteristic.
