Assess[edit]

Its a list, but it can have quality Victuallers 22:53, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have completed the list of PUBLIC school districts in the state of Iowa, according to the official list that is published on the Iowa Department of Education web-site, which can be found here. The list found there is complete with mailing addresses, cities, zip codes, phone numbers, and district web site URLs. As a result of this, there are a ton of red links, and it is dubious that every single district would be notable enough to earn their own Wikipedia article (that would be ridiculous). I took the district name and appended " School District" at the end, without regard to actual names: whether they may actually be referred to as a Community or Independent school district. Feel free to correct them if they do not match the actual names. --Ted 21:49, 17 May 2006 (UTC) Was that useful Victuallers 22:53, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The location of the list has moved:[1] and here is the map[2]
@Teddythetank: Is the intent to include religious schools? Pella Christian is on the list, but the Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Catholic school are not. RickH86 (talk) 16:13, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@RickH86: I think this list should only have tax-supported public school districts as per Iowa law. WhisperToMe (talk) 00:51, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@WhisperToMe: I've got it that way now. The other schools are on the list of high schools or private schools or both. RickH86 (talk) 15:17, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Every public school district is a "Community School District" similar to "Independent School District" in Texas. I will update this list accordingly. Brandonrush Woo pig sooie! 14:28, 18 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It appears this was not completed, as I see a few that are still missing "Community" in the title. I'll attempt to update. RickH86 (talk) 13:55, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I cross-referenced the list with the state list. "Community" has been added where appropriate (there are a few exceptions). RickH86 (talk) 16:13, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Organization[edit]

As so many Iowa school districts cross county lines, it may be better to organize alphabetically? WhisperToMe (talk) 04:43, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@WhisperToMe:I think it should be by county, based on where the district offices are located. That is how they are organized on the reference from the state. RickH86 (talk) 16:16, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@WhisperToMe: It appears 38 state lists are organized alphabetically, so I'm going to revise this. RickH86 (talk) 14:34, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It should be organized on a table alphabetically Norwegain (talk) 02:46, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Article Creation for districts that don't have pages[edit]

It would be nice to get an article created for every district on this list. RickH86 (talk) 14:40, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I believe an article has now been created for every district, as of 2020. RickH86 (talk) 15:13, 9 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Former school districts[edit]

I don't see former districts on other lists of school districts, but it would help to prevent them from being orphaned. Any suggestions? RickH86 (talk) 21:11, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@RickH86: I definitely agree with listing them here. The State of Iowa lists those since 1965, and Arkansas has a post-1983 list (Texas does too), while Mississippi lists those since 2014. There's another list of former Arkansas districts from 1965 to 1998. WhisperToMe (talk) 00:50, 5 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Figures of former districts[edit]

Aleksandra Vujicic of the Associated Press stated that there were over 900 school districts in Iowa in 1938, but the Iowa Department of Education put the figures at 4,839 in 1922 and 4,558 in 1953. I'm guessing the state has the correct figures. WhisperToMe (talk) 20:31, 7 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Organization - reorganized[edit]

Is there some reason we've changed this to be by county? I think it's harder to find a specific district, and as noted above, the lists for 38 states are just alphabetical, so unless they are also in the process of being changed, this list no longer conforms to the majority. RickH86 (talk) 18:49, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I will be attempting to make this a table, tell me if I'm doing something wrong please Norwegain (talk) 02:49, 8 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
