Category:Districts of Leeds[edit]

Does this page do anything which the Category:Districts of Leeds doesn't do? PamD 14:14, 29 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Think we should delete this page as it is not necessary as far as I can see the category will do. Keith D 11:10, 25 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
A possible use for the page would be if a map is put on the page with the areas marked and numbered. The number could then be attached to the entries in the list. Keith D 15:08, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Moving forward[edit]

See discussion at Talk:Leeds. I have added all the article names from the category "Leeds environs" to the previous "Areas of Leeds" to create a first unified listing of "Places in Leeds". It needs more work when we have agreed what to do with it. PamD (talk) 16:08, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Info boxes[edit]

Firstly, I am placing this message here as it applies to many pages within the scope of this page and I haven't time to copy such a generic message over and over again. I am currently adding infoboxes to all areas of Leeds using the UK place template. This is tedious work, however I think it to be somewhat essential, I also have little time to spare and would like to spend some of what I have engaging in the more pleasurable aspects of Wikipedia, so I would appreciate some help. I am trying to do a few each time I log on. If you wish to help please use the infoboxes with a space for images to be added as this will save time in future, also please move the lead image into the box. If there is no image, leave the space in the box blank, but leave the title in anyway. If there are several images, then please select a lead image. I would appreciate a second pair of hands. Thank You, Mtaylor848 (talk) 19:49, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'd noticed a lot of infoboxes when starting to work through the A-Z sequence to fill my table! Well done. A couple of points:
  • Shouldn't we say Leeds rather than City of Leeds, as the name of the Met district, after all the debate we've been through?
  • I wonder whether the coordinates are over-precise? There's a bit about this at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Geographical_coordinates#Precision, and my reading of that is that 3 decimal places defines location to about 56m, so is enough (or too much?) for any of our places. I understand it affects which scale of maps people see when they follow the links.
PamD (talk) 22:38, 9 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
We should still be using City of Leeds as that is the correct name of the metropolitan district and also for consistency with other places in this situation. This has been done for places with merged articles such as Sheffield, York etc. The redirect will take care of getting to the Leeds article. Keith D (talk) 20:54, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It would be good to add the OS reference at the same time as adding the infobox rather than having to trawl through them all adding this at a later stage. Keith D (talk) 20:57, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hyde Park/Headingley[edit]

I think that the entry for Hyde Park should say that part of the area is in the Headingley ward. I know that the boundary between these areas is very vague, but some landmarks commonly considered Hyde Park (such as the Hyde Park Picturehouse and the Brudenell Social Club) are in the Headingley ward.
