Sources[edit]

It would be good to add some sources, and perhaps a note as to how they are related to the borough e.g. "lived here", "was MP" etc. MRSCTalk 09:28, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I think this would duplicate what was in the WP articles. If anyone is interested they need only click on the link. i will amend the deader ot the article to try to make this clear.--Smerus 15:08, 4 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why a list?[edit]

I am new to Wikipedia and trying to understand both how to use it and how to contribute. Could you please help me understand the criteria for separate pages? A list of wikipedia articles for people from enfield is easy to get by typing "Category:People from Enfield." Surprisingly, there's not much overlap between the lists. Of course, this list would logically restrict that one by requiring that they be "notable"; on the other hand, perhaps "associated with" is more general than "from." I investigated some examples:

  • Benjamin Disraeli is on this list but not in the category "People from Enfield"; moreover, his article doesn't mention Enfield. Is the wikipedia biography missing some information about his association with Enfield?
  • Charles Lamb is on this list but not in the category "People from Enfield." His wikipedia bio doesn't mention Enfield but says he was born in Crown Office Row, Inner Temple, London.
  • Charles Cowden Clarke is in the category but not on this list. I confess I've never heard of him, but it seems that he's notable enough to have an Encyclopedia Brittanica article. Wouldn't that make him a good candidate for this list?

Can you clarify what's going on for me? Thanks very much Ngriffeth 12:51, 1 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    • Good questions. Charles Lamb's article does mention that he and his sister are buried at Edmonton (which is now part of the London Borough of Enfield). They lived there during Mary's later years. Benjamin Disraeli's father Isaac D'Israeli lived in Enfield during Benjamin's youth. I am writing here from memory and somebody needs to look up the facts and add them to the articles as Ngriffeth implies. I've never heard of CC Clarke and I would venture to say that he is one of a number of non-entities who figure in WP only because the 1911 Britannica articles are out of copyright. Otherwise he is forgotten and deserves to be imho. What's going on? - well, if you are not satisfied with what you see, edit it! That's what WP is all about. --Smerus 13:11, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:Grade I and II* listed buildings in Bexley which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 11:48, 25 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
