This page is the missing page in an already existing set for the districts of West Yorkshire. See List of people from West Yorkshire. Seems to me if you don't like this sort of page (and they are popular!!!!) then action was needed a long time ago. Plucas58 (talk) 23:19, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have tagged those pages as well, however I am not sure if they fall into the category. We might need to adjust policy. Phearson (talk) 23:24, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Doesn't this type of article create a lot of duplication of detail that is already available as categories, such as Category:People from Kirklees (district)? For example these names from Category:People from Huddersfield, along with those from the other towns, which are already sorted and available in their respective categories will each now be required to be individually edited and placed on the list, based on the current page format. That seems to be a huge amount of duplicated work, let alone the requirement to ensure the list and category are synchronised. It also seems to be an article that will be prone to unreferenced entries and vandalism! Richard Harvey (talk) 17:20, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
People often say that about lists, but many find that they are quite complementary. One difficulty with categories is that they often contain a number of subcategories, often inconsistent due to different editors placing topics at different levels, and it can take ages to search them all - whereas a list is just a single-page list and is easier to peruse. Also, lists can contain extra information that categories can't, so in this example we can instantly see what everyone does and where they were born, and that can be expanded - with a category, all you'd see is the name and you'd have to look individually at each article. On the negative side, as you say, there is the ongoing problem of keeping lists up to date and consistent with categories - the lists vs categories debate is a very old one, and it keeps coming up at WP:AfD. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 18:13, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Halifax[edit]

Quick question, why are people born in Halifax, Calderdale being included in a Kirklees listing? See Pickles & Portman. I can't see a justification in the citations or the WP articlesKeomike (talk) 12:41, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
