India needs 10 time more improvement in expressways[edit]

Clarification on India's expressway network[edit]

Just to clarify, are the highways of India described in the ranking referring to controlled-access highways or at-grade roads with intersections? Some of the state and national highways that add to the ranking appear to be at-grade roads as opposed to controlled-access highways built to the standards of of EU motorways/US interstates. AMIA190 (talk) 09:39, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Now, that's better. What the source (CIA World Factbook[1]) says is:

India
total: 4,699,024 km (2015)
note: includes 96,214 km of national highways and expressways, 147,800 km of state highways, and 4,455,010 km of other roads

How do you know these aren't controlled-access highways? Where is your number sourced from? — Guarapiranga  11:20, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Controlled access highways generally refer to highways that are fully separated from intersections and such (no traffic lights, dual carriageway, have grass or concrete dividing medians). I know this is a circular reference but the corresponding wikipedia article for India's expressway network contradicts your claim that India has more freeways/motorways than the USA, China, or the EU. AMIA190 (talk) 23:05, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
the corresponding wikipedia article for India's expressway network contradicts your claim
  1. It's not "my claim"; I just copied the source (I didn't even notice it showed more freeways/motorways than the USA, China, or the EU; I agree that's highly unlikely).
  2. The corresponding article you point to, however, quotes an even higher figure from the Indian govt, though (308,666 km):

According to Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, as of March 2019, India had about 132,500 kilometres (82,300 mi) of national highways and expressways, plus another 176,166 kilometres (109,464 mi) of state highways.

So again I ask: what's the source for your number? — Guarapiranga  04:56, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I see what you mean now: highways in India are not controlled-access highways; only expressways are. I see the article for Expressways of India states that as of April 2021, approximately 1,652 km of expressways are operational in India,[1] but can't find a source for it. The List of National Expressways right below it, OTOH, adds up to 2,501 km. — Guarapiranga  05:36, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, got it, it's the total in List of Expressways (Operational) table below. Ok (circular ref or not). — Guarapiranga  05:45, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
There, Cobblet sorted it with an external source. Now it's the Expressways of India that needs the fix. — Guarapiranga  05:51, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ref tag placement[edit]

Guarapiranga, I presume you have some reason for placing ref tags before the numbers in the table, but this is contrary to MOS:CITEPUNCT. If it messes up the sorting, or if it's because you don't like how the sporadic ref tags cause some numbers to shift out of alignment, my suggestion would be to put them all in a separate column. Missing countries[edit]

In this edit a number of countries were scrubbed from the list for no valid reason, since it happened many edits ago, they will have to be restored mostly manually. Pieceofmetalwork (talk) 14:24, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This table now needs editing until it's up to date and in the same format as the article table. Johnragla (talk) 01:54, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Tanzania’s figure of 86,000 is way outdated. The accurate numbers according to the gvt is somewhere around 200,000 Nlivataye (talk) 15:17, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New Zealand is missing off this list[edit]

Why are so many countries missing? It’s also out of order 95.151.59.236 (talk) 12:49, 28 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Paved/Unpaved Roads[edit]

The CIA World Factbook is missing data for some countries about paved roads. On the page, those those countries are falsely listed as having 0% of their roads paved, which is quite misleading. Another source should be used (such as France) or, at least, they should be marked as "N/A". KoBa 18:13, 22 March 2022 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by KoBa38492 (talkcontribs)

Iran[edit]

Your information about Iranian roads is wrong. The correct information is included in the Persian Wikipedia for Iran along with the sources Mahan79 (talk) 11:39, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Tanzania???[edit]

Of all countries seriously Tanzania is forgotten????🥵🥵🥵🥵 Nlivataye (talk) 15:15, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Greece definitely has paved roads[edit]

How is it that Greece is recorded has having 0 km of paved roadways? CIA needs to redo their reconnaissance in this regard. (talk) 15:44, 2 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

CIA Factbook data[edit]

I work for a large navigation company, I've checked the data on all these countries and it's way off. For example for UK it's says 424129 km while in fact there is 579636 km of road network in the UK. The Factbook says it's less for all countries, so I suggest finding a different public source (because what I have is private) for this table completely. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Factchecker1544 (talkcontribs) 13:07, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Errors in table[edit]

1. Nauru, Tuvalu and Maldives - they have paved roads:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transport_in_the_Maldives https://www.theprif.org/country-profile/republic-nauru 2. Slovakia have 38 220km of paved roads: 38 220+765=38 985 (98%+2%=100%) (There is written 56 000 km = 146%, that number is not making any sense.) • @Lubomír Helma: I've changed Nauru. Like this Talk page, the article can only be edited by choosing Edit Source. Try that to see if you can edit it. Johnragla (talk) 05:26, 31 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
