I would order them by sales, instead of alphabetic name. --Altermike 18:05, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

There's already a page for that, at List of bestselling vehicle nameplates. The trouble is, we have no external verification for the "rankings", and to compile such a list is therefore original research. This page was created specifically to avoid that problem (see Talk:List of bestselling vehicle nameplates for previous conversations on the matter). --DeLarge 20:07, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

Wrong title

This page is not a List of automobiles by sales but a "list of automobiles by name with sales". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Java13690 (talkcontribs) 17:35, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

La Marquise?

I was going to add the La Marquise to this article. Sales: 1. It last sold in August for over $3,000,000. Unfortunately, it was made in 1884. Any good reason the list starts in 1886? -- Kendrick7talk 02:54, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Nevermind, I can add it. It wasn't sold until 1906. -- Kendrick7talk 03:48, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Shouldn't it be under "M", if anywhere? I'm assuming the "La" is just the French definite article. According to the CNN reference, that's only its nickname, and its true name is De Dion-Bouton et Trepardoux. Although to be honest, cars like this look a bit out of place here. "One-off" doesn't really need quantifying, which was the point of creating the page... ---- DeLarge (talk) 20:19, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Hmmm, De Dion-Bouton et Trepardoux is the make. I think it would be under "L" since it's a foreign definite article; you wouldn't look up La Bamba under "B". It does fit under the current inclusion category, though I'd be fine with re-figuring the parameters. -- Kendrick7talk 20:54, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Image needs replacement

Hello all...

An image used in the article, specifically Image:IMGP0134.JPG, has a little bit of a licensing issue. The image was uploaded back when the rules around image uploading were less restrictive. It is presumed that the uploader was willing to license the picture under the GFDL license but was not clear in that regard. As such, the image, while not at risk of deletion, is likely not clearly licensed to allow for free use in any future use of this article. If anyone has an image that can replace this, or can go take one and upload it, it would be best.

I tidied this page up a while ago, but fundamental problems remain:

  • The biggest issue is the auto-numbering (using a hash at the start of a line). I brought this in to make editing easier, but the trouble is that it becomes an OR ranking of car sales based only on partial data. What's worse, about a year ago the article was cited by a newspaper writing a story about the Lada. Far better, I think, to have a properly tabulated list with sortable columns, which this page provides.
  • The second issue is the size of the other page. It started off as a list of "bestselling nameplates", but a lot of current entries don't meet that criteria. This article is less discriminating in its title and would be a better place for all the sales stats. The parallel article at List of bestselling vehicles can serve to list those genuine bestsellers (by manufacturer, class, etc).

The last merge tag was removed after a year, but recent additions to the nameplates page want me to push for this to be sorted, especially now that both alternatve articles exist in mainspace. --DeLarge (talk) 16:50, 29 October 2008 (UTC)
