Untitled

Better platform description: For development purposes, it would be highly useful if the phones were tagged as Series 60 (S60), Series 40 (S40) and "Other". I've added some release dates for the phones, it's incomplete at the moment. If anybody wants to add any more dates, if you're very bored or want to take your mind of something with something very monotonous, the best way to find dates is searching on Nokia's press releases. I've tried to keep to the shipping dates when possible, else the announce dates have been used. any one which is "Unknown" has been searched for but not found, the blank ones simply haven't been searched for. I plan to add two other categories: technology, (GSM, CDMA, WCDMA etc), and formfactor. Joolz 00:40, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)

I was wondering if it's better to go into less detail for the frequencies, to list which technology the phone is based on, whether it is GSM or WCDMA or AMPS etc rather than to say which individual frequencies it runs on. Missing phones

1620, 1630 and 1631 are missing from the list. These phones were derived from the 1610, 1620 being Nokia's first GSM 1800 phone. 82.181.140.86 07:21, 19 September 2005 (UTC)

WLAN and the E-series

I really think WLAN-support should be mentioned under technology. The E-series and N-series phones look very similar i this overview, when the E-series actually is a great leap towards fixed/mobile integration. Any thoughts? JonathanHart 08:48, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

Not all E or N series have WLAN. Some handsets in both series have it, and some don't (admittedly, most E series have it, but not all). Wibbble 16:07, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

New phone

Nokia now makes the 3266i. I'm not sure if it goes here though because I was told that it is actually manufactured by a different company (don't remember the name, I think it was a South Korean company). A proposal

Would it not be better to split the mobile section, particularly the 1xxx–9xxx Series subsection into relevant subpages? Most of the phones mentioned in the list are either red links or have only small stub articles. Some are also often up for deletion because of notability concerns. Many of the phones are also just variants of others. It would be better to consolidate all these small stub-class articles into articles devoted to each series, so as to get a more global view as to why this series was developed, its evolution, etc... as well as common features amongst the phones. If individual phone entries get longer, then they could be spun off as standalone articles.

Also, as more phones get released, this list is only going to get longer. Also, most of the created articles seemed to be biased towards recent and/or high-range phones.

An example of what is being proposed: Nokia 1xxx series (Its not perfect, but roughly what is being proposed)

That sounds like a good idea to me. I just ran across this article, and I was looking for a summary of all the series, like the L'Amour collection, etc. I also disagree slightly on the names of the subpages. I initially wrote my comment without looking at the page too much. I wouldn't know how to split the 6XXX series, so I won't. As for the names, however, (and I mean subsections, not subpages, sorry) I disagree on the names given for the 3XXX and the 6XXX series. I don't associate "business" with the 6XXX series necessarily, and it's hard to even give the 3XXX series a name, at least in my opinion. --Char645 07:27, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
You mean the 'Expression series' and 'Classic business series' parts of the name? Well, I don't know who wrote these headings, but I do think that they were part of official Nokia marketing speak when the series were released. Sources are hard to come by for these numerous and rapidly evolving products, but take a look at these: [4], [5], [6].
BTW, 'Nokia 3xxx series' does not return as much useful results on Google as 'Nokia 3000 series'. Ǣ0ƞS 15:31, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for helping out. I would also like that all the series' article to have a standard layout and formatting. This is needed to avoid the current mess of different templates, too much unnecessary detail (sounding like marketing) or too little information, etc. Here are some points:

  1. Are infoboxes necessary? If so, which one to use? Some use Template:Information appliance, while some others use Template:Infobox Mobile phone
  2. Are 'features' sub-sections necessary for the phones (Often leads to marketing type lists) or should only the main/new features be stressed on in prose only.
  3. The launch dates of the mobiles should be clearly given as far as possible, ideally in the introduction since the numbering scheme does not seem to follow a chronological order.

And is there a WikiProject which can be associated with these articles?

No, that wasn't what I had in mind. What I had in mind was simply a brief summary of what the series was all about, and perhaps mentions of better known models. --Char645 08:41, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
That's part of what is being proposed. As I said earlier, as the individual phone sub-sections get longer, they may be spun off as full articles, such that only a summary is present on the series page. The points above are to give a more even presentation to all the Nokia phone articles. I do think that infoboxes are not necessary in the series page.

I redirected the series articles to the main list since they were messy and filled with the same info as the main list. I agree with Char645 that if these articles should exist they should just have brief summaries of the series like the Nokia Communicator article.
In response to Aeons' query about infoboxes, i think they are necessary on phone articles, but not list articles. I replaced all the phone articles inboxes with Template:Infobox Mobile phone to avoid confusion. Nokia 9500 communicator

8xxx series

IMHO it would be more correct to refer to 8xxx series as "Luxury series" and not "Premium series". 8xxx series does not offer any premium features, its key selling point is prestige and luxury materials. How about renaming the section? Netrat_msk (talk) 22:38, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Computer Monitors

I once owned a Nokia 445 Pro CRT Monitor (it was actually a rebranded ViewSonic monitor and had a Sony Trinitron CRT w/ 21", another rebranded ViewSonic was the 446pro, which had a 19" trinitron [7]). I think, there were also other Nokia Monitors, which where not rebranded ViewSonic. So I think, we should add Comkputer Monitors to the Nokia Product List. --MrBurns (talk) 11:58, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Memory

We need a column for memory- it's very relevant for e.g. web access. symbian phones have a very capable webkit browser (same as safari/iphone) but many pages crap out if insufficient memory e.g. the nokia 6650 fold sold by a t and t.

Technology

I think that we need to clean up the 'technology' section of the tables because of the rate of progress in this area. I will momentarily state the problem, and am soliciting solutions from the crowd. I dislike how I see UMTS and W-CDMA listed together (UMTS relies fundamentally on W-CDMA!). Also, things like HSDPA and HSUPA build on UMTS. (GSM was documented as 3GPP R98, UMTS first appeared as 3GPP R99, HSDPA as 3GPP release 5, HSUPA as 3GPP 6). Each of 3GPP R99, Rel 5, Rel 6, and Rel 7 can rightly be called '3G' and, more specifically, the UMTS variant of a 3G cellular technology, because each of these use similar settings on the air interface and in the architecture of the core network. Also note that 3GPP Rel 8 is a 4G (3.9G) technology we also call LTE. TelecomNut (talk)

What is the meaning of the column labeled "S" in the charts?

Can someone add specific and "visible" information about the column having the letter "S" as header? I tried to find the meaning in the article but found nothing. (Please, forgive me if it is there, but, frankly, I did not see anything). I guess it might mean "submodel" but I do not want to guess... Nokia C310i

In the course of the WP Deorphanage project, I have come across an orphan page for the Nokia C310i. I have had a look at this Nokia products page, but do not have sufficient expertise to see where to place this model. Single/Dual SIM?
