The Seattle Supersonics don't exist[edit]

It's a shame. I wasn't happy about Clay Bennett lying to the people of Western Washington (okay, we all knew he was lying, but it's still a damn shame), but at any rate the team does not exist any more than the Tri-City Blackhawks or the Montréal Expos exist. The fate of their retired numbers is uncertain until anyone figures out what "shared history" means. College teams[edit]

I don't think this is necessary because college team has nothing to do with NBA retired jersey. Since User:Jcbalding, the person who should start a discussion, refused to do so, I have started this thread for him.—Chris!_c/t 05:07, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I also don't think it is necessary, whether they were successful enough in the NBA to have their jersey retired are not related to their college. None of the NBA Awards articles mentioned college team. Their college team could be easily found by reading each player's individual article. Furthermore, with a college column, the tables will have some empty columns for the non-players who get their jersey retired. However, if the college team should be added, please do not undo all the changes that are not related to the addition of the college column, recent addition of the college column messed up the reference and notes column, the reference format and the sortnames, which was just recently being fixed. I also think that all the tables should be merged into one big sortable table and get rid of the teams' subsection. — Martin tamb (talk) 06:59, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A player's college team, while not directly related to the player's NBA history, does show a player's playing lineage, since that was the team he started building the skills necessary for the NBA. The size, basketball reputation, etc. of the college show trends when you look at the whole body of the List. You can draw conclusions about the colleges based upon the number of them shown. While this doesn't have relevance to the individual player, it does help answer the question, what does it take to get your number retired in the NBA? While that is interesting, I don't think that is necessary. In the meantime, I will procedurally revert your edit to restore my edits. Please do not revert. I don't think the college matters that much to the player's NBA success. Central Arkansas, McNeese State, Evansville, Centenary, Wisconsin-Stevens Point, etc aren't churning out NBA players on a regular basis. Some players just get good breaks. Zagalejo^^^ 18:59, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lakers Retired Numbers[edit]

According to the official LAL site (http://www.nba.com/lakersnba/historynba/retired_numbers_010918.html) there are only seven retired numbers (#44 for Jerry West, #13 Wilt Champerlain, #22 Elgin Baylor, #25 Gail Goodrich, #32 Magic Johnson, #33 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and #42 for James Worthy). So where did you get that info about #17 Pollard, #19 Mikkelsen, #22 Martin, #34 Lovellette and #99 Mikan?

I'm not sure where that information came from originally, but the site [1] states that these are "unofficially" retired numbers. I'm not sure whether that site obtained this information from wikipedia or if it has an independent source. — Myasuda (talk)

I looked a little more, and one can see the names (but not numbers) listed at [2] and the raising of the banner is mentioned at [3]. So, it does appear that these players, while honored, did not have their numbers listed or "retired" so it doesn't seem that they should be included in this particular article. Kobe Bryant number retirement by Mavericks[edit]
