Source of this list[edit]

What is the source of this list? I want to check it. Blue Rasberry (talk) 15:06, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Patna is in Bihar[edit]

I do not know enough about Patna to be able to place these sites, but I know that Patna is in the state of Bihar and not Uttar Pradesh. I see that the coding used on this page has "UP" listed so evidently the person who wrote the source had some reason for coding it in Uttar Pradesh, but UP hours from Patna. What's up here? Hi Blue,
Nice to meet again :) This is an interesting artefact from how the Archeological Survey of India is organized. Please note I have derived this information only from their website and I'm not 100% sure. It seems they were originally organized in 'circles' of which Patna was one. Those circles were not necessarily along state lines. However, later they reorganized their lists along state lines. In some states there were multiple circles present, so also in Uttar Pradesh. One of those circles was the Patna circle. So if you want to fully cover Uttar Pradesh, you have to include the part of the Patna circle that falls within Uttar Pradesh. I hope this makes sense to you. The source is available here. effeietsanders 21:07, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I understand everything now. Thanks for clarifying and thanks for the work you have done to organize this. Blue Rasberry (talk) 22:43, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
