Apparent spelling errors in the list

I see that this list is taken ad verbatim from ASI site, but it seems that there are quite a few apparent spelling errors. For example, N-MH-A40 to A45 show the place name Bellichpur (Achalpur). It apparently is Ellichpur, because there is no place named Bellichpur and Ellichpur is ancient name of Achalpur. Again, I have visited Nagardhan fort in Nagpur district, which is a archeological site as per the noticeboard there. It is apparently Dpnagartal N-MH-A139 in this list. I would suggest getting a supporting list if possible to check such errors and avoid confusion. Shivashree (talk) 15:37, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Feel free to fix this kind of errors! After all, it is a wiki. As long as you don't add buildings to it because you happen to think they are important (that is a matter of definition). Spelling mistakes, unclear descriptions etc should definitely be improved upon. effeietsanders 21:33, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

I've seen on more occasions that Nagardhan is considered to be the same as Dpnagartal but I don't seem to find support for that at this point in the official ASI lists. They can of course make mistakes... However, other sources do suggest (such as this Times of India article) that the Nagardhan fort is actually protected by State law, and not by national law. This also confirms the status in the State protected list of Maharashtra, which mentions Nagadhar at number 112. Might it be that it is still another fort we're talking about? Probably still misspelled, but to what... effeietsanders 10:47, 5 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! I noticed it later that it is a state-protected monument. I have been to that place and the noticeboard there (in Marathi) notes that it is maintained by the Archaeology Department of the State Government (and not national). So Dpnagartal is certainly not Nagardhan. Shivashree (talk) 02:15, 6 November 2012 (UTC)

Pandav Leni caves

I have removed the photo with the entry associated with Pandav Leni caves, Mahur, Nanded. That photo was captioned Pandav Leni, Masai Pathar, Kolhapur. I gather there are three sets of Pandav Leni caves in Maharashtra. One in Pathardi, Nashik; another in Mahur, Nanded and; and one more in Masai pathar, Kolhapur. The ASI website is, as usual, not helpful in locating which is which and what their corresponding monument numbers are (if any). -- Rohini (talk) 15:04, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

Sorting of current list

Hello @Effeietsanders, hope you're doing well. Bringing you in here because you were the creator and main contributor to this page. It's been ten years since then (time flies!). On this page, the monuments from Aurangabad and Nagpur circle are combined together which has created a bit of confusion not only here but also on Commons (I guess there's some semi-automated bot working to connect the two). Technically, the Aurangabad circle has only 75 monuments. Whereas, the Nagpur circle has 93 monuments which gives us a total of 168, as already reflected in the current list. Although, we have a separate page for Nagpur circle monuments now. The issue is that a bot on Commons adds the ASI template according to the numbering on this Wikipedia page. But the Wikidata numbering (correctly) follows the list on the website. Example - Wikidata for Jain temple, Tringalwadi shows the actual numbering but the bot has added the numbering on the image according to the Wiki page, which actually doesn't exists on the ASI website. This is just one case of the many. Hope you got the point I'm trying to make. Let me know if it would be possible for you (or not) to get involved in updating this. Thanks for the ping and for working on this. It's definitely been a while. I'm actually not sure how this page came to be a combination of these two circles. What usually happened is that we tried to create state-based lists, and would split those up if they became too large. Circles are then a natural division. This may have happened here. Another thing that could have happened, is that the circles split after the page creation on ASI side, and we never processed that here? Feel free to update as appropriate of course.

If you renumber at all, I would suggest to be cautious that you don't use any existing numbers for dual purposes (i.e. don't use a number that was already 'taken' previously for another site). This would definitely mess with things. A more sustainable way could be to build this data into Wikidata and pull the tables from there.

I don't think I have much bandwidth to work on this myself, but I'd be happy to take a look if there's something that needs clarifying. It sounds like you're well on your way though, which is better: I rather not be the bottle neck! effeietsanders 20:41, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for the reply and creating this list on the first place. More or less, the ASI list might've been updated in the due course of time, thus the changes. As it stands, the list would need a complete revamp since there's a marked difference between the numbering here and the official list. After looking at it closely, I think the repetition of existing numbers is inevitable for the specific monuments of the Aurangabad circle. The Nagpur circle monuments will have a number different than this, so that part is sorted. Moreover, the best part is that the Wikidata has already been populated with the correct codes. Here is the entire list (Aurangabad, Mumbai, Nagpur circles) of Monuments of National Importance in Maharashtra populated from Wikidata (I couldn't figure out how to show the ASI Monument IDs in this table).

I can take it ahead from here but I'll need some guidance with regards to making a table on Wikipedia using Wikidata. I got some idea by seeing the source code on this page. However, some inputs from your side on how to get started and proceed further would be helpful. The process can then be replicated on the Nagpur page as well.
