In case of copyright questions[edit]

Much of the original formatting of this article comes The Lost Jewel article on abbreviations. Since I run that wiki and wrote that article, I promise I am not infringing on myself. The Pony Toast 🍞 (Talk) 21:14, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Over use of the “three dot” symbol[edit]

Having seen A LOT of Masonic literature in my job curating a Masonic Museum, I think this article seriously misuses the "∴" symbol. This symbol IS commonly used with Masonic titles, so W∴ or R∴W∴ (for Worshipful or Right Worshipful) is accurate... however, it is NOT used in most of the other abbreviations listed in this article. Standard punctuation is far more typical. (For example, “Free and Accepted Masons” is routinely abbreviated “F.&A.M.” and “Ancient York Masons” is abbreviated “A.Y.M.”) Blueboar (talk) 01:01, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Over the next few days, I am going to go through and remove the symbol where it isn’t common. I will go slow, so if anyone objects, it won’t be a big issue. Blueboar (talk) 02:27, 11 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notability?[edit]

Ok, we all know that Masonic abbreviations exist... However, mere existence is not enough for Wikipedia to have an article about it. While this article may be useful for those reading Masonic documents or looking at Masonic websites, I am not at all sure that the topic of “Masonic abbreviations” passes our Notability criteria for a stand alone article. An article needs to establish that the topic is noteworthy. To do this, I we need reliable sources that are independent of the subject to discuss it. Are their independent sources that discuss “Masonic abbreviations”? Blueboar (talk) 13:29, 13 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Grand Secretory[edit]

Is this for real, or is this a typo for Grand Secretary? ϢereSpielChequers 06:37, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think it was a typo... I have changed it. Blueboar (talk) 11:46, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I suspected that, but given the secret nature of the organisation I thought I'd just check. ϢereSpielChequers 13:45, 1 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

What do the symbols mean?[edit]

I have a copy from my great grandfather who was a level 3 Freemason, but there seems to another alphabet, I’ve figured out 3 letters, B W O, but nothing else. Can you please help!? XXRtx3080 cardXx (talk) 02:37, 13 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
