Photo[edit]

The article needs an image - Tiswas(t) 15:44, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There are lots of photos of Hopkins on the internet (including good ones from her 2007 Rossini role and the one on the Wolftrap page and her agent's page), but I have no idea what their copyright status is, and I don't have any experience in importing images to WP. Feel free, if you know how to do it. -- Ssilvers 14:20, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indiscriminate information[edit]

There's a surfeit of indiscriminate info in the article - non-notable prizes for school essays, for example, non-notable, non-reviewed performances in college. The quotation of reviews also makes the article very POV. - Tiswas(t) 09:01, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree that quoting published reviews of the singer's performances is POV. All the reviews that I have read were unanimous in these assessments. If you can find one that says something substantively different, then by all means include it, but this information is necessary to show the critical reception that the singer has received. I also disagree that listing roles played in an opera company at Yale are not relevant to the singer's background. Also, although I don't think this is very important, most profiles that I have read about Hopkins mention the Emerson Prize. What harm does it do in this short article? In a few years, when Hopkins has a longer bio, some of the early stuff can be trimmed, but she is a very young opera singer, and I think that, for now, including this information gives a better picture of her accomplishments thus far. -- Ssilvers 14:17, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding sourcing reviews, I tend not to care, inasmuch as I would prefer to leave it to someone with a vested interest in an article to source it, whilst I make sure that it fits in with wikipedia policies, and represents a fair and balanced view of the subject. If all reviews are glowing, so be it - You should be aware, however, that over emphasising them by copy & pasting gives them more prominence than a mention in passing, incrasing their POV nature.
As to relevance of all roles played, that is debatable, and POV in itself - This is why there are guidelines and policies governing the inclusion of notable events, and not indiscriminate lists - These are not (in the short-term) negotiable criteria, but policy or necessary guidelines. I'm happy to leave it to your discretion to address these issues as you see fit, but will no doubt edit away if I feel that the information has no place in the article. - Tiswas(t) 15:45, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
