Untitled[edit]

I removed the following:

In post-2000, a hip hop album such as Like Water for Chocolate is considered "alternative", a label which many of the artists associated with this type of music disapprove of, because of it's likelyhood to turn off potential listeners. This is a factor Common approaches with humor on A Film Called (Pimp) by sending up his own "self-conscious" image with a skit depicting him as a hypocritical woman-beater.

The first sentence is not written in the right tone for an encyclopedia, but the second sentance would not work without it and I don't know enough about this to make accurate changes to the first sentance. I'm No Parking and I approved this message 22:23, 24 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Sample Credits[edit]

Track 4

  • Contains sample from "Give It To Me Baby" as performed by Rick James

Track 9

  • Contains sample from "Memories Are Here To Stay" as performed by The Intruders

Track 11

  • Contains sample from "Morning Order" as performed by Hugh Hopper and Alan Gowen

I removed these sample credits as they are not outlined in the CD liner notes and the editor provided no sources...--NPswimdude500 05:14, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Single covers[edit]

I removed the single covers because I believe that their use violates Fair Use law. The image use complies with almost every requirement outlined in WP:FUC(Fair Use critera), with the notable exception of point 8: "The material must contribute significantly to the article (e.g. identify the subject of an article, or specifically illustrate relevant points or sections within the text) and must not serve a purely decorative purpose." In their current form, the single covers for The Light, Geto Heaven and The 6th Sense are used purely for decorative purpose. The audio cover requirements (WP:FU#Images) state that cover use is "for identification and critical commentary (not for identification without critical commentary)." Release dates, B-sides and chart positions do not qualify as critical commentary. Additionally, although the three singles are mentioned in the article, they are not discussed in detail in the Like Water for Chocolate article itself (although their single pages contain a great deal more information, and therefore usage there is justified). Although I do agree that displaying the single covers gives the article a nicer, more presentable appearance (their appearance for identification purposes is nice as well), Wikipedia prevents the images from being used in that capacity.--NPswimdude500 23:35, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Nag Champa lyrics[edit]

The mind is funny, how it's spent on gettin' it [money]
I'm sittin wit descendants of Abraham
Who say the jam is "Money, Cash, Hoes"

I guess I don't really understand how these lyrics fit with the paragraph that introduces them. The first line makes sense, but in context I don't see how the other two fit.--NPswimdude500 (Talk|Contribs) 01:14, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I quoted the line (and by the way, that's for fixing it) because I think it's a good example of Common's sense of irony. Being that he's pointing out how the descendants of Abraham (who was ready to sacrifice his only son), now practice an entirely different culture, one that worships money and celebrates greed, rather than God, or spirituality. Of course this is rooted in religion but since this also reflects the rapper's religious beliefs (if any), I think that makes it doubly relevant. And also, it fits with the previous lines as it mirrors the contrasts between the two rappers who Common claims to be inspired by; the somewhat spiritual Rakim, and the famously material, Too Short. What about it don't you understand? Or do you think it should be re-phrased? I'm open to that idea but I do think it should be in the article in some form. The Moving Finger Writes 02:52, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wow. It makes sense to me now, but I doubt the casual reader would understand it. If there were a way to put what you said just now, into the article, that would make it much less confusing.--NPswimdude500 (Talk|Contribs) 03:16, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Like water for chocolate.jpg[edit]

Image:Like water for chocolate.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:49, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
