Birthplace[edit]

There appears to be a minor conflict between sources regarding Haylen's birthplace. The Australian Dictionary of Biography states he was born in Woodfield near Queanbeyan. However the NSW Geographic Names Board website doesn't show a record record any such place, past or present, in that location.

By contrast, Haylen's biography at the Canterbury Council website[1] lists his birthplace as Gudnaroo. The Australian Defence Force Academy also lists Haylen's father's birthplace as Gundaroo [2] indicating at the least a family connection with the village.

Given the rural location its possible "Woodfield" was the name of a the property rather than the location. Regardless, given sources supporting both locations but the verifiable existence of only one of them I've gone ahead and changed the birthplace to Gundaroo and noted the Council website in the references section.

I'd be happy to be enlightened on the mystery, if anyone knows more about it. Euryalus (talk) 23:58, 7 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Les Haylen's son, Wayne Haylen[edit]

See the item Attempted assassination of Arthur Calwell. The student son of Les Haylen, Wayne Haylen captured the would-be assassin of Arthur Calwell. On the evening of 21 June 1966, while campaigning for ALP during the 1966 federal election, Arthur Calwell addressed an anti-conscription rally at Mosman Town Hall in Sydney. The assassination attempt outside the Town Hall, failed. Calwell suffered minor injuries. Peter Kocan initially was jailed at Sydney's Long Bay Gaol before being soon transferred to Morriset Psychiatric Hospital for the criminally insane. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 220.235.50.75 (talk) 07:10, 14 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
