Free school, structure and logo[edit]

Do we know which wave it was in- and what the title of the application was, then we can download a very usefull pdf from government publications. I have tried looking for leigh and for Blackheath but it could be anywhere- we just know it was approved in 2015, possible July.--ClemRutter (talk) 21:06, 3 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I am comfortable with the section headings as they are until we have more details of the new building, and the article is more mature. It is a convenient format for the initial stages- but is starting to be less so. We can do a restructure at any time. Hi ClemRutter, the ping didn't work by the way as you added an extra space after my username - I have no idea about which wave it was in, I've haven't looked it up yet, but while I was updating the infobox, I seen the school's listing on GIAS mentioning the type as free school but the listing says it was last changed/confirmed on 12/07/2019. When you created this article, did you come across anything that mentioned the word free school? Surely there has to be something about it being developed as a new free school, hmmm.. Or maybe it's not a free school and the GIAS listing is wrong?

The structure being for the initial stages sounds good. You're welcome, and the concern with the logo was because it had a white background and extra spacing on the sides, which doesn't look nice in an infobox (transparent would be ok but will affect its display in infobox and is unnecessary). It would be perfectly fine on a white background but other coloured backgrounds should ideally be transparent and will look better. An editor had also tagged the file requesting that it should be transparent. Thanks for adding the tag when I asked in the edit summary so I could upload a fresh copy. Lets try that ping again, without the space Steven (Editor), weird that the template didn't truncate the final space, I Ctrl-U and it is just a space- someone elses problem. The image looks far better, I wonder whether the initial large png was not transparent, or whether the error arose when I did the thumb nail downsize. Let me know and I have a go at Mascalls Academy.

Retrieved 2 November 2019. explains how MATs work-(or shockingly don't) and how the term free school has changed its meaning between 2010 and the election stunt of 2015. Leigh Academy Rainham was a Wave 12 school- Medway Academy- downlosd the pdf and we see it was a joint application for Medway Academy in Strood or Rainham and Stone Lodge Academy which was rejected. There are 55 fascinating pages of aspiration and doublespeak- which make (give) references to their practice in other academies. In my calculation Blackheath is 4 years ahead of Rainham which applied in 2016 so the application could have been in 2012, 2013. ClemRutter Yep the ping worked and nothing to do with the space, it's because you added my username in a separate edit without signing it. I don't think I've written the text properly in the brackets above about transparent logos, but was saying about extra spacing on this also being a problem (if you did understand the brackets, please ignore this). When you uploaded the logo originally, did you get it from the school's website from the one displayed at the top? That's the one I used and is already transparent, so only needed to reduce the size and remove that unnecessary extra spacing. I had a look at Mascalls Academy's website and it's using an alternative logo (white text) on a dark background. The logo is already transparent but because of the white text it won't look nice in the infobox (see E-ACT for example). Here a link of its logo on a lighter background on a page of its website however the text is distorted -so this is not a good one to use. But yeah give it a go.

I see, we'll just have to keep searching online for something (hopefully) about it's establishment as a free school -GIAS confirms it but something is needed on it for the start of its history -found this source which is good but no info on the plans (off topic: Says about one school had closed because of falling rolls and four free schools set up which increase capacity -strange planning). The article mentions about this school opening "on a temporary site, the old army site on Shooters Hill Road in September 2018". I found this source which says "Victoria House on Shooters Hill Road in Blackheath" which I think is this article: Victoria House, Greenwich -probs better to be specific here and link to this article (if applicable). Most likely it was from the school website which is similar for all their sites, but the source I gave was on a page that was open, a switchboard on the trust site to all their academies. I was notified about a size issue and copied the thumbnail from the infobox (I think) in between there were a couple of real life interruptions and declining memory function did the rest. In our guidance notes we need to explain thses pitfalls.

I have been googling wave and academies all day- and picked up the news that the application for the IAG International Academy Greenwich was cancelled last Friday as they failed to find a suitable site. They got planning permission to build it on a floodbasin, but lost it at judicial review. So it became a defunct freeschool before it was even built- there is some good news around.
