Enrollment numbers[edit]

The current enrollment number is off, I think-- 409 students are in the high school, but I don't know a number for the middle school.

According to the 2005 La Salle Institute Alumni Directory the total enrollment is 632. Consisting of 211 in the middle school and 421 in the high school. The directory says that those numbers are current as of 2004; I don't have a more recent count. RSRScrooge 02:46, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

JROTC[edit]

"In contrast to JROTC in general, the goal of the program at the institute is not to prepare students to be soldiers nor facilitate recruitment, but mainly to instill discipline and provide leadership experience"

I think that this line from the article is a bit slanted. Its statement, "In contrast to JROTC in general," and what follows seems contradictory to the mission statement of JROTC itself which is "To motivate young people to become better citizens." As a member of a JROTC program in Memphis, TN, I'm unsettled by the implication that the goal of any JROTC program is to "prepare student to be soldiers...[and] facilitate recruitment." I have no issue with what the article states about La Salle's JROTC's goals, but rather what it seems to state about other JROTC programs, or the JROTC program in general. One should bear in mind that JROTC is, with some notable exception, a national program regulated by U.S. Army Cadet Command, and is therefore a nearly national (if not global if one considers DOD high schools oversees)cohesive program. Unlike English or Science which are generally represented at every high school but have no real connection to each other between high schools, JROTC, or the cadet corps, is a comparatively unified body. I believe what the article says about La Salle's goals, namely to "instill discipline and provide leadership experience," is more the rule than the exception when referring to JROTC programs in general. --AndrewVu 06:37, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

While there may be some merit is contrasting La Salle's military program to JROTC in general, it should be done in a way that does not make incorrect and/or controversial statement about the general JROTC program. Such matters should be dealt with on the JROTC page. This article is supposed to be about La Salle, not JROTC in general. The comparison was added[1] by User:Terjen (Talk). Perhaps you should post a comment on Terjen's talk page to alert him to the discussion and see if he can improve and/or justify the wording of the comparison. NPOV and libel[edit]

I have removed material that is, most obviously, POV materal and/or libelous, in violation of several WP:NPOV rules. I have edited the sentences there to make them sensical, but left in any possibly truthful material. Bearian 17:27, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know who the user Bearian is, but it's clearly not an alumnus of LaSalle, so I'm not quite sure how that person feels that they can pick and choose what's truthful about the info contained in this article.

Bearian knows what's obviously POV, false and libelous. Anything that looks remotely truthful, I left in. If you have an opinion, please place it in the Talk or Discussion page for the article. Bearian 17:17, 17 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm kind of new to Wiki, so I apologize for not understanding how to log in with my username in order to leave comments (I've tried...I guess I'm just ignorant)...I just wanted to make that point clear so that it doesn't seem like I'm anonymously leaving malicious commentary on this site/article. I do have to say, however, that your definition of libel and mine are clearly in conflict. Postings concerning various instructors at LaSalle have been deleted for potentially being "libel," yet any alumnus of this "distinguished" institution (including myself) can verify the truthfulness of some of the things that have been recently deleted, including posts about a theology instructor who boasts of being asked to leave the seminary for inappropriate conduct. According to the American Heritage Dictionary, "libel" is "A false publication, as in writing, print, signs, or pictures, that damages a person's reputation." Some of the recent postings that I've put into this article concerning one particular instructor at the school come straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak, and any number of alumni can verify that he is known for bragging of his past expulsion from the seminary. I think you need to reassess the rules of this "distinguished" site and perhaps not delete commentary from articles just because it conflicts with YOUR "POV". This is, after all, a public forum, and it can be argued that every single article on Wiki is "POV," if written in a clever enough fashion.

I think the deeper issue here is really verifiability, or ability to prove an assertion of truth; see [2]. Hearsay is not enough in most courts (except grand juries and N.Y. Family Court). If a teacher makes a comment that is quoted in a school newspaper, or class yearbook, or a court case, I'd accept those types of things as source. In the meanwhile, I'll insert back a redacted (edited down) version of the teacher list. After your comments, type four (4) tildes (the shift-accept mark next to the # 1 key). POV and time sensitive edits[edit]

I ask that the students of LaSalle stop adding their POV edits and edits that are not in the context of making this article encyclopedic. Although I appreciate your achievements as athletes and scholars, this article needs to be about the school and not individuals attending the school. We can have pertinanat information about current team captains and JROTC leaders on here, but they need to have the dates of relavence added to them, so that when you are no longer a student and might not care about this article, the information is not pout of date.
