Music video[edit]

Can we post the music video from Youtube? It is quite good - better than most. Besides, would you don a Ballgown and trainers and skip through downtown London for no reason?

Description of lyrics[edit]

Set to a cheerful tune, the lyrics first appear to describe a lovely scene "A fella looking dapper, and he's sittin' with a slapper"

Had to laugh at this one. A fella "sittin' with a slapper" - what a lovely scene! 217.155.20.163 23:14, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I had to look up slapper at urbandictionary.com. Yea that doesn't sound so lovely now! 65.12.135.63 02:11, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I do not understand a word of that. Fill me in? :) 67.81.102.176 17:46, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It means "a smartly dressed man, and he's sitting with a sexually promiscuous woman" — AnemoneProjectors (zomg!) 23:18, 25 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reggae Merengue[edit]

Do we have a citable source for the info about Duke Reid? I know that Reggae Merengue was recorded by Tommy McCook, but I've always been quite certain that McCook, and not Reid, also wrote the song. Duke Reid would have played it on his system for sure, but McCook usually wrote his own material for the Supersonics and stuff. I'd love to know the real story, so a source would be great. This should be LDN (single) not LDN (song)[edit]

Right? The article is about the single, not the song. LDN (song) should redirect to (single). 67.81.102.176 17:47, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, the article should be about the song. ShadowHalo 23:27, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please, please forgive me for butting in considering that I haven't even heard the song "LDN", but regardless I agree that in this particular case, "song" is preferable to "single", because it's more clear. If you Google "LDN" you'll see that the initials usually stand for the compounded generic drug, "low dose naltrexone", a very effective, revolutionary alternative treatment for auto-immune disorders, especially multiple sclerosis, Crohn's Disease, and HIV/AIDS. I'd bet the ranch that in a few years, LDN(the drug) will be a HUGE big deal; I wouldn't know about the song. (No, I promise I don't sell LDN! I buy it and take it.) PLEASE check out the links below before you delete this-THANKS! ~ flora68)

Song based on "Cógeme la caña", Colombian folk song by Nestor Montes?[edit]

In Colombia it is widely held that this song is based on a folk song from the 50s by Nestor Montes called "Cógeme la caña". Here are two references I found:

http://www.scribd.com/doc/6510908/Cartagena-Noticias-del-Olvido http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmo_Py8oTeQ

There is not much online about this but this belief is widespread enough in Colombia that I think it should merit mention in the main article.

Sampling[edit]

I just listened to a copy of "London Is The Place For Me" and I can't hear that song in this one. Can anyone point out any particular piece of correspondence? -- Beland (talk) 01:08, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There probably isn't. This article was edited by lots of IPs and unexperienced users, so most of the information comes from blogs, unreliable sources, or even made up. So this statement may be fake. Anyway, I will start work on the article soon and clean it up. I did the Background section a few months ago and forgot to finish the article. --12345abcxyz20082009 (talk) 08:54, 14 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ska?[edit]

Clearly this is not ska. The record that the tune is largely based on isn't ska, and this track isn't ska. --Michig (talk) 17:09, 13 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
