Pinging people[edit]

Not that Kratu

ValereeePearlSt82, feel free to improve if you like, I've never made an article about a dog before. A "I want to make an article about my dog" thread appeared at the Teahouse, and it turned out that The Times knew who that dog was. He's so adorable it probably counts as biohazard in some jurisdictions. Courtesy ping to Jimfbleak, who deleted a previous sandbox version. Gråbergs Gråa Sång, hahaha...that's great! —valereee (talk) 10:47, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good to me - are any pictures available? I think that could enhance the article. PearlSt82 (talk) 15:10, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
PearlSt82, see User_talk:Kratu_the_rescue_dog#Kratu_(dog), something may come of it. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:32, 18 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm, it would be fun to rename the other article Kratu (god). Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:32, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notability[edit]

I hate to be a dick like this, but I have serious concerns about whether this page satisfies the notability guidelines. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:50, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I think the Romanian sources alone do that, but I created the thing. This [1] I haven't managed to get my paws on. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 21:02, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
William Harris, you know about dogs, do you have an opinion? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 21:11, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I raised this on the talk page, instead of doing anything more conspicuous, because I want to give the page a chance, and I really do feel badly about raising criticisms.
I'm not an expert on notability for dog pages, but I looked at Category:Individual dogs. The relevant subcategory is Category:Individual dogs in sport. It appears to contain only dogs that have won Best in Show at major shows, or racing greyhounds who have won significant competitions. Since it does not contain Best in Breed or Best in Group winners, I tend to think that dogs who did not win Best in Show, but got commentary about their performances, would depend on WP:GNG. --Tryptofish (talk) 22:21, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I posted this: [2], at WT:DOGS. --Tryptofish (talk) 22:29, 5 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Tryptofish, absolutely, all individual dog articles (including best in show etc) should depend on GNG. I have had a very quick look at the sources, the 2020 Slate article and the two Romanian sources appear to be both reliable and provide sufficient SIGCOV, most of the others are just puff pieces about the dog's appearance at Crufts and/or the autism of the owner, not really focusing on the dog itself. At a glance the article appears to meet GNG, if you like I can look at the sources in greater depth. Kind regards, Cavalryman (talk) 02:43, 6 May 2021 (UTC).[reply]

3 Romanian sources. Also British, American and Canadian. Chinese. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 06:29, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, thanks for the ping. I believe that we have established the WP:NOTABILITY of this article. William Harris (talk) 08:24, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks everyone for the replies. I'm satisfied that there is consensus that GNG is met here (and, frankly, I'm happy to find that). I've been thinking about it, and I have a suggestion. I think it's a mistake to treat this page as "this is the biography of this dog", because that leaves it vulnerable to concerns that it's just "this is my cute pet", which was to some extent my initial reaction. What makes this at least a borderline pass of GNG is the way that the dog not performing as expected in the Crufts trials made for a popular sensation. In other words, this is really a page about an internet phenom, rather than about a particular dog's life. I'd focus on that, instead. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:41, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Crufts is about half the article, that is an amount of focus. Sources cover other aspects too. And I don't think borderline pass of GNG is correct. Teahouse-hopefulls wanting an article about them or their company would cream their jeans for this amount of coverage. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:16, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the addition you made to the lead section. --Tryptofish (talk) 20:41, 6 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I am not the most experienced user her, but I am quite keen on dogs, dog shows and sports in real life. If other editors agree that the article is notable, I would suggest expanding it using those sources that you have listed above. To develop it and change the main theme of Crufts to the actual story of popularity. If this is suitable, I can try to do that. LoraxJr 21:57, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, thanks, go for it! --Tryptofish (talk) 22:16, 19 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have done some work on the article. Changed the structure a little to change the accent from Crufts to their advocating work. Please let me know, what you think. LoraxJr 07:46, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I see some things I intend to change if nobody does it first. Tryptofish, comments? One point, and it's rare for me to argue WP:IAR. Despite the source, Wood Green was not involved in the rescue. This I know because the editor Kratu the rescue dog told me so at User_talk:Kratu_the_rescue_dog#Kratu_(dog). Technically, I don't know that they are who they say they are etc (they uploaded the leadimage so it's a very good bet), but on this particular point it seemed the right thing to do. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:16, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Another thing, LoraxJr, is that the article now states "In 2014, when Kratu was a few weeks old, he was rescued" ... "Kratu was saved from an abusive situation as a puppy four years ago" Do you see the problem here? Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:34, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
My fault on the double info in the article, please go ahead with editing. Regarding the Wood Green, I assume, this the organisation that is meant, https://woodgreen.org.uk/find-a-pet/find-a-dog If you know for sure, they were not involved, we should probably eliminate them from the article all together. LoraxJr 09:05, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Like I/She said, they were not involved in the rescue. The rest, post arrival in UK, is fine. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:14, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, got it. Go ahead with any edits you find relevant. I am only new, and appreciate any feedback on my contributions. LoraxJr 09:25, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've made further edits. LoraxJr, please be more careful about references in the future. One example. See The first paragraph you made in the "Appearance at Crufts" section in this [3] article version. Now check the ref you gave the paragraph. None of the text is supported by the ref. On WP, these things matter. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 14:04, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I meant to put that source into other sentence, but got distracted. Thank you for you help! I think now the article looks improved and notable. --LoraxJr 12:58, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the ping. Because some paragraphs were jumbled, I made this edit: [4], so please check that I didn't mess up the chronology of events. As for those other edits, they are fine with me. --Tryptofish (talk) 21:55, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Video[edit]

While editing I was trying to attache the actual video of Kratu's run from Crufts, as I saw articles with video files previously. And here it is very relevant. But I could not cope with the attachment. Could someone explain to me how it is done, or just attach the video? Here is the link https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=10156243089799878

I don't think this is something WP does (in this case) because WP:COPYRIGHT. Note the Slate article in the EL section, though. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:04, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I just thought as the article mentions the video that went viral several times, it could be relevant to attach it here. --LoraxJr 09:07, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Non-free content is a harsh mistress. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:17, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, =(((. It is a shame actual Crufts webpages does not have a free video available. I have looked through the website, but it is not loaded anywhere. --LoraxJr 09:26, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've added it to the External Links section: [5]. There's nothing against-policy about linking to non-free content in that manner, just as there is nothing wrong with citing a copyrighted website as a source. The problem would only come about if it were uploaded as a video "image" illustrating the text. --Tryptofish (talk) 21:59, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Woops, I should have checked that it wasn't the same as the other EL. --Tryptofish (talk) 22:24, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I read i like LoraxJr wanted something like at Barack_Obama#Economic_policy. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 22:27, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that would have violated NFCC. --Tryptofish (talk) 22:30, 4 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for clarification. I did want the video to be inserted in the text, now I understand why it is against the rule. But external link video, I guess, is better then no video at all. Especially in the article where it is an important part of the actual topic. LoraxJr 12:57, 23 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Contradictory edit summaries by me[edit]

Punctuation is supposed to go before citation. That is all. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:29, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
