Untitled[edit]

This article really could use a note on Speaker's Corner, as well as mention of the protests and marches and such that commonly take place at the Square. --Dalziel 86 12:32, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

If you really do desire to have something like this in what is an *international* encyclopedia, then such information should be contained in a completely separate article to this one, with a link to the article. This article should be restricted to information about King George Square, itself. 203.101.228.137 23:28, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
A photo of Speaker's Corner is now on the article page, but this is because the statues at Speaker's Corner are part of King George Square. Figaro 14:45, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are some errors in this article. The car park was opened earlier than 1975, and the round fountain was in situ before 1975 too. However it survived well past 1975 and was only removed during Lord Mayor Atkinson's tenure when the new fountains were constructed.

The present fountain / garden is the third to be built at the front of Brisbane City Hall. The original fountain [1] [2] was removed to Wynnum [3] in the late fifties, according to a stonemason who worked on the project. It is now filled with earth and plants, although the glass tiles lining the waterproof areas can still be seen. Cathetus 22:15, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have now removed the date (1975), which is something you could have done to correct the information on the page.
With regard to the round fountain, you did not know to which fountain I was referring. I was actually referring to the round fountain which was in existence following the redevelopment of King George Square - not the fountain which was moved to Wynnum. The two 'round' fountains are completely different from each other.
It was, at best, misleading of you to suggest that the fountain currently in Wynnum was ever a part of King George Square, and that it was the fountain to which I was referring. You knew perfectly well that the fountain that was moved to Wynnum was never a part of King George Square, but a part of the preceding Albert Square.
I am grateful, though, for the pointer to the photos, because of their historical value, and I have been able to put the information into its correct context within the article. Figaro 06:58, 9 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Photo that is supposed to predate the carpark[edit]

I don't think that is accurate. I remember the fountain in the centre of the square was part of the carpark redevelopment scheme. Michael

Date correction[edit]

King George Died in 1936, not 1935. I'm not sure if that means the text relating to the redevelopment in the square is correct or not.

Robyn, Brisbane.

Thank you for mentioning this. The year of King George V's death has now been corrected — from 1935 to 1936 — on the article. Figaro 04:22, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

King George Square, BrisbaneKing George Square – To move this article to "King George Square" would align it with the likes of Federation Square and other major city squares.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Bastian92 (talkcontribs) 15:02, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. Seems like unnecessary disambiguation to me, seeing as King George Square already redirects here. Jenks24 (talk) 17:47, 25 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Disambiguation is not needed at the moment. - Shiftchange (talk) 00:29, 26 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose unless you can establish that there is no other important King George Square anywhere in the world. Peterkingiron (talk) 18:20, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • Wikipedia does not disambiguate for prospective titles. Unless you can show another article already called King George Square (or create one), to disambiguate this article in the hope that one day someone might create an article. Jenks24 (talk) 10:58, 31 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
