spelling[edit]

Most readers will come across the name of the ancient city in the Bible, where it is universally spelled "Cenchreae" in accordance with centuries-old tradition. It is mannered and perverse to spell it with a K rather than a C, apparently solely because the Roman alphabet "K" looks more like a Greek kappa than does the Roman alphabet "C". The spelling in this article just gets in readers' way, and should be changed. Deipnosophista (talk) 16:25, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
