Orphaned references in Kawasaki 1400GTR[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Kawasaki 1400GTR's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Origin of concurs.[edit]

I don't see any good reason not to explain where the Concours name comes from. Featured Articles like Sunbeam Tiger and Talbot Tagora and Holden Commodore (VE) discuss the origins of nomenclature. It would probably be an improvement to move it out of the lead to somewhere lower down in the article, since it's not the most important fact about this bike, but otherwise it isn't violating any principle of good articles that I know of. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 06:36, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The origin of the term has been moved to a etymology section. I agree that there is nothing wrong with it being in the article, I just don't think it needed to be cluttering the lead. Spacecowboy420 (talk) 07:35, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

1400GTR Discontinued in EU[edit]

Apparently the Concours is discontinued in the European market, making the 2017 the last year for that region. Although the US and CA sites have a 2018 model, there are numerous reports on the web that the Concours/1400GTR will no longer be offered in Europe, presumably due to lack of certification for Euro 4. User:Dennis Bratland added a reference (one I did see prior and was reluctant to add), but seeking more. Strangely, the ZZR1400 was kept, even though it is basically the same engine as the Concours 14... the C14 actually should be more likely to be ready for EURO 4, if for no other reasons than it has the advantage of variable valve timing and slightly less displacement (and is thus is more fuel efficient and has fewer emissions). I speculate the move to discontinue the 1400GTR in EU is simply because they chose not to certify it, not because it can't pass- a move based more on marketing and sales numbers. I would love to get more information, but cannot find any. The big question on the table is if the 2018 remains in the US/CA (any other markets?) as a vestige and will soon disappear there, too?Crxssi (talk) 03:39, 4 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Color Information[edit]

User (talk) removed all the year/color information in one swoop, as if none of it had any value. I disagree with such an edit. Many people can use this to determine which bikes they want to buy, or when trying to identify what year a model is. Further, the edit had sub-headings like "2012-2014" with only information about the 2012, which doesn't make much sense. No wikipedia aritcle should be written with the intention of helping people shop, or decide what to buy. See WP:NOTSALES and WP:NOTCATALOG. Writing articles to use as a spotters guide violates various sections of WP:NOTGUIDE. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia. This is a core policy, and if you read WP:NOT as a whole, you will get the general sense of all the ways in which this kind of trivia is not what an encyclopedia is for. Based on this policy, WikiProject Motorcycling has guidelines against colors, trim levels, options, and so on, found at WP:MC-MOS and Wikipedia:WikiProject Motorcycling/Conventions#Manual of style.

Having entire sub-headings for the sole purpose of saying that the bike wasn't changed at all is pure filler. We aren't trying to make these articles as long as possible. If a major revision was done in 2012, and it lasted through 2014, then the section about that generation for the bike is 2012-2014. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 23:06, 3 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You do find various C-grade articles that still have paint colors hanging around, but by the time the reach GA or and FA status, the colors are gone. See Honda Super Cub, Category:GA-Class Automobile articles and Category:FA-Class Automobile articles.
