Untitled[edit]

This article could perhaps be merged with Plimmerton. I lived in Karehana Bay for eight years and in my own experience the area is generally referred to as 'Plimmerton' and only occasionally as Karehana Bay. The 'Karehana Bay' designation does appear on official maps from Porirua City Council, however, so perhaps that is justification enough for the article's continued existence. Mate, I dispute the above for the following reasons; a) if you look in the local phone books, next to street addresses, those in Karehana Bay say 'KareB' and those in Plimmerton, say 'Plimm'. b) what you are saying as that places like Linden and Redwood for example, should have no geographical distinction other than Tawa, which is simply unacceptable c) i have lived in Karehana Bay for twenty years, and in my own experience, the people of Karehana Bay identify with the Bay, before Plimmerton. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JamesB5209 (talkcontribs) 05:16, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Glover's poem is not "world renowned" hence my edit. In fact, in the world of poetry (not the world of NZ poetry), Glover is more or less an unknown.

October 2012 updates[edit]

I made various edits tonight, to reflect the amalgamation of Karehana Bay (the suburb) into the official suburb Plimmerton by the gazetting of a New Zealand Geographic Board recommendation, on 3 November 2011. (See the sources cited in the article.) I also added some history of Karehana Bay, based on a Porirua City Council document on the Karehana Bay Scenic Reserve. However, I notice there is additional (perhaps conflicting?) history on the Plimmerton Residents' Association web site, here: http://plimmerton.org.nz/karehana-bay/. In particular, there is a suggestion that Karehana Bay was proposed (if not actually adopted?) as a name for both the bay and the suburb in 1923. There is also an earlier and slightly more precise date on the subdivision by George Troup. I'm reluctant to include it at this stage since the web site is not a particularly authoritative source in itself, but I am sure their information is backed up by something, so would welcome further references to this. Update: I've tracked down sources for the PRA web site's dates and added further info and references on the subdivision of Karehana Bay.Jasonlv (talk) 08:11, 29 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
