Untitled[edit]

I'm a little iffy on the subject of mentioned the fact that Saeed al-Ghamdi and Waleed al-Shehri (and Mushabib al-Hamlan) were security guards at the airport. Notable fact for this article, or no? Sherurcij (Speaker for the Dead) 17:14, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

well, we do have the Hooter Calendar Girls under trivia. So, why not.--MarsRover 22:13, 31 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No mention of the 1999 hijacking?[edit]

this is pathetic. we have a list of comedians who visited the place but not one of the tensest plane hijacking situations that happened in the recent past. As always thanks for the useful info. --72.190.105.241 08:30, 27 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, the trivia section is a little much and in need of some pruning. --MarsRover 04:31, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Canadians?[edit]

I find it amazing that this article doesn't even mention the fact that a vast majority of the personell currently stationed at Kandahar are Canadian [2500 troops], as has been the case for some time now.--User:Climie.ca

I added a bit about the canadians--MarsRover 04:26, 26 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

While the Canadian presence on the airfield is significant, they represent less than 20 percent of the total current population. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.244.162.171 (talk) 10:42, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New images[edit]

I've replaced the b/w image with colored that shows the airport terminal as well as the area around it. I think it's better than before.--PH4crew (talk) 00:49, 24 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Other Forces[edit]

Bulgaria has also deployed some units (270 men with humvees, M1117s and stuff), but what are the other foreign forces, maintaining the airport (except the Canadians) ? I didn't find any info on the subject. Thanks in advance. - Tourbillon A ? 16:49, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed to this one. There is a mention of Dutch F-16's but haven't these been replaced or augmented with Belgian F16's? These are not maintaining the airbase, as I understand, but they do operate from it. Thanks for any related updates. Jan olieslagers (talk) 12:21, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Who is maintaining the place?[edit]

Right now we don't agree with ourselves:

-"Since 2006 the airfield has been maintained by the Canadian Forces...."

-"US Marines landed at Kandahar in late 2001...It was occupied and maintained by...the United States since then."

I don't know which is right, but it can't be both. 138.162.128.55 (talk) 15:23, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Typo[edit]

"At first it was mainly occupied by the United States armed forces, incl but since 2006 the airfield has been maintained by the Canadian Forces."

Can someone figure out what "incl" was supposed to say?

This is the edit. its nonsense. --MarsRover (talk) 06:22, 22 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"enduring domination"?[edit]

Why do military code words have to to be used in Wikipedia so much? It gives the (justified?) appearance of U.S.A. military propaganda. 189.188.225.250 (talk) 05:34, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Airfield Maintenance[edit]

The statement that the airfield has been maintained by the Canadian Forces since 2006 is incorrect. Responsibility for the operation and maintenance of the airfield passed from the United States to NATO in the summer of 2006. The current airfield command and control element is comprised of a multinational staff which is responsible directly to the ISAF Joint Command Headquarters in Kabul. Most airfield operational support is contracted and managed through the NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency (NAMSA). Canada contributes to the funding of this support; however, holds no national responsibility or authority for the airfield. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.244.162.171 (talk) 10:36, 22 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
