Well either way, this is the discussion for the name Kahn (a German surname popular with German Jews) not the Muslim name Khan! Admitedly they are spelt very similar.Yakface (talk) 00:58, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
why is this the primary topic?[edit]
The lead for this article is: "Kahn is a German surname. Kahn is the German word that means, in informal contexts, small boat. It is also a Germanized form of the Jewish surname Cohen, another variant of which is Cahn." But then there is a separate article, Khan (surname) (also about a surname), which includes the bizarre hatnote "Not to be confused with Kahn" (??). Why is this the primary topic? It seems like Kahn should be a disambiguation page, but then what would make sense for page titles for either page? Move this one to Kahn (German surname) and the other to Kahn (Asian surname) (roots, it would seem, in Mongolia, but the article mentions several Asian countries)? — Rhododendrites talk \\ 20:55, 14 August 2016 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I understand. Khan has nothing to do with this article, the hatnote is probably there because the two names have similar pronunciation and spelling. The actual ambiguous terms are at Kahn (disambiguation), and none of those are as prominent as the surname. —Xezbeth (talk) 11:37, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
Facepalm I am a fool :) I came to this article because of a notification that a link had been created from here to Khizr and Ghazala Khan. Looking at the diff, I saw it was then removed and tried to figure out why. I concluded, through excellent detective work, that it was because there were separate articles for the name with German and Asian roots. No such word as "Kahn", this seems to be a plagiarized imitation of Khan[edit]
Sorry but there is such word as "Kahn". Even google asks did you mean Khan?? Cain exists so does Cohen and Cohenim but not "Kahn"
In the game Mortal Kombat, it has always been Shao Khan from the beginning. The "Kahn" spelling seems to be something new after some political pressure on developers it seems. Even gamers say Shao Khan or Kotal Khan because that is the correct spelling for eg. Genghis Khan
Kahn cannot be pronounced Kha it would be pronounced closer to Can. But the point is that there is no such actual word as "Kahn". This just seems to be a plagiarization of Khan. The correct words would be Cain, Cohen, Cohenim, Kohen and Kohenim
By the way the female version of Khan is Khanum or Khatun
