Assessment as of December 2013[edit]

The article has some good content and referencing. However, a lot of the content seems to focus broadly on Jews in Virginia rather than on the Synagogue itself - the primary focus should be on the subject of the article. Also, I look forward to seeing a picture in the article....--Mojo Hand (talk) 23:48, 31 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mojo Hand, I'll trim it down in the next few days as I push unrelated content to relevant wiki pages. I intended to paint a picture that is orthogonal to prevailing historic myths of Jews in the 13 colonies. Conventional myth is that the first Jews to Arrive in America was a ship from Recife Brazil carrying Jews to New Amsterdam. That is not correct. The first Jews landed in present-day North Carolina and Virginia...and they have generally gone unmentioned in wiki pages. Regardless - I'll clean it up.
Don't misunderstand me - I think this is good content, though perhaps in a broader article. For example, seems like this would be a good start for a History of the Jews in Virginia article (like History of the Jews in New York or History of the Jews in New York City). Just a suggestion.--Mojo Hand (talk) 15:45, 1 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
that's a terrific suggestion, Mojo Band. As I trim this article down to the subject I'll move the other stuff over to a new page for "History of Jews in Virginia". Thank you for the suggestion. Jaim Harlow 16:01, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
Looks like I got here just in time! Over at History of Virginia we just spun off "Religion in early Virginia" which was proving to be a rather important topic warranting its own article (basically, religion in Virginia from its founding through to the aftermath of the Declaration of Religious Freedom). If you do get around to making History of Jews in Virginia, we should make a Summary Style section of relevant content there, (and if you don't get to that, I propose that it would make a good section of its own in that article)!Morgan Riley (talk) 20:50, 5 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
