Version by Nelstone's Hawaiians[edit]

It seems this song was recorded by Nelstone's Hawaiians in 1929, released on Victor 40273. See [1]. Several CD reissues of early country music also give a date of 1929 for this recording. 213.122.3.198 (talk) 11:58, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

At least 4 songs with same title[edit]

There are several songs called "Just Because" -- in addition to the song discussed on this page, and the Jane's Addiction song, there is a song written and performed by Lloyd Price (it was covered by John Lennon in 1975), and at least one other song with the same title, but written by Michael O'Hara, Sam McKinney, and Alex Brown (sung by Anita Baker). Maybe the disambiguation page needs to be expanded to include these other songs.

This article does not mention the author(s) of the song it discusses. Are the authors Bob Shelton, Joe Shelton, and Sid Robin? The following page says they are, and that the song was published in 1941:

But there's another page that credits the song to Jason Edmonds and Joey Elias:

I just found a YouTube video that shows a 1941 re-issue of a 1935 recording of "Just Because," performed by the Shelton Brothers. Another YouTube video has the song as recorded by Nelstone's Hawaiians. (This is just speculation on my part, but is it possible that the Sheltons took an existing melody and added their own lyrics, then had that copyrighted? Many blues singers have done this.)

Shaky facts with little or no proof[edit]

"Just Because" is a song written by Joe Shelton, Sydney Robin and Bob Shelton and originally recorded by Nelstone's Hawaiians (Hubert Nelson and James D. Touchstone) in 1929 and later recorded by The Shelton Brothers in 1933.[1][2] Some sources[which?] say that Sydney Robin wrote the song alone and the Sheltons added their name when they recorded it.

Please help me re Sydney Robin. Why is he named as a writer when he appears nowhere on the legal documentation?
