What the man says[edit]

{{spoilers}} This video is among my favourites. But I'm still stumped on the end part, where the man explains why he's lying down. Does anybody know how to lip read? Huh. So, based on that, before we could find out what he said, the camera jumped to the Radiohead members, then it cut back to everybody lying down. - Ndrly 04:13, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Seems more likely that they simply used a couple of clips from other takes of the scene out of convenience, and we're supposed to imagine that the second and third repetitions of "I'll tell you why" are him saying something completely different. One of my friends said he could read lips and said the man said, "Down is the new up." I believed him because (a) it makes sense in the context of the song and (b) it's the name of a new Radiohead song. But if everybody disagrees with me, we can remove my addition. ---ethan

Might I just point out that, regardless of how certain anyone is of what he's saying, there's no reason to add any such theories to the article itself, as that's original research. tgies 11:26, 11 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm pretty suprised that this hasn't been talked about before, but Radiohead members are known to be big "Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy" fans and I believe this is a direct reference to a scene in the series when the earth is about to be destroyed and Arthur Dent asks his friend what they should do in preperation. His friend Ford Prefect replies that perhaps they should lie down in the fetal position. Can anyone else confirm this? Clearly no one knows what he's saying, including Thraves or Radiohead. Someone mentioned Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy: if there is any parallel, it's to the girl who figured out the Ultimate Question (to Life, The Universe, and Everything) just before the earth was blown up, so it was lost forever. Obviously, Douglas Adams didn't know what that question would have been. Not saying you can't speculate about what he might have said, just saying there's probably nothing behind it, and leaving it unintelligible makes it seem mysterious and pregnant to great effect. Article needs serious attention[edit]
