Notability (evident lack of...)[edit]

I can't see any reason the subject of this article would meet WP:GNG guidelines. Unless some actual evidence is forthcoming, the article will have to go... AndyTheGrump (talk) 20:43, 23 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

maybe you'll have to go BlueSalix (talk) 15:27, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Per WP:POLITICIAN,

2.Major local political figures who have received significant press coverage.[7]
3.Just being an elected local official, or an unelected candidate for political office, does not guarantee notability, although such people can still be notable if they meet the primary notability criterion of "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article".

So as Republican nominee for Mayor of Pittsburgh, we can assume he has received significant press coverage as a major local political figure. his appearance on a National Geographic program is icing on the cake. Ground Zero | t 15:53, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

In which case, rather than assuming anything, find the sources, and demonstrate it. AndyTheGrump (talk) 15:58, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You're really asking me to prove that Pitsburgh media reported on the Republican nominee for mayor? Really? Is that a good use of anyone's time? You know that I can show it. I think you're being unreasonable in asking for evidence of what is obvious:
WTAE (ABC TV), Pittsburch Post-Gazette, CBS Pittsburgh, NPR Pittsburgh.
Also, these sources and others are already in the article as references. I should not have allowed you to waste my time. Ground Zero | t 21:20, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I was hoping that maybe someone would expand the article, if there is more on Wander - who seems himself to have noticed a lack of reporting. From the last link above: "It’s unfortunate that that’s what it takes for a Republican to get some publicity is to leave the country." Does this make him a "Major local political figure"?AndyTheGrump (talk) 21:35, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So the evidence for him being notable is a bunch of references from reliable sources per Wikipedia policy, and the evidence against him is his own complaint that he can't get enough media coverage? I don't see that as being grounds for non-notability in Wikipedia policy. Political candidates always want more media coverage. Well, maybe not Anthony Weiner, but almost all of them do. Also, I don't think that WP:N was intended to be used as a tool to prod people into doing work that you someone else to do. The article could be expanded, sure, but that is a different discussion from the question of notability. I'll remove the GNG tag as we seem to have moved on from that. Subject does not have to be a "major local political figure" [sic] to meet notability. There is established precedent for perennial and nutcase candidates to receive WP entries (Perennial_candidate#United_States). Subject has been reported on, in more than incidental fashion, by National Public Radio, National Geographic, Times of Israel and an assortment of local media all referenced and cited in article.
