Article name[edit]

Ransdell is known informally as "Joe Ransdell" but is generally published as "Joseph Ransdell" or "Joseph M. Ransdell". His full name is "Joseph Morton Ransdell".

There is a Joseph E. Ransdell. The Joseph Ransdell page is currently a redirect to Joseph E. Ransdell.

I'd suggest that "Joe Ransdell" be moved to "Joseph M. Ransdell". As for the "Joseph Ransdell" page, if it remains a redirect to "Joseph E. Ransdell", then, in that case, an "other use" template should be placed atop the "Joseph L. Ransdell" page

One could also make "Joseph Ransdell" into a redirect to a "Joseph Ransdell (name)" page which would work like a disambiguation page, but since there is only one other "Joseph Ransdell" currently in Wikipedia, it wouldn't be considered worth it. An "other uses" template atop the "Joesph E. Ransdell" page would accomplish the same end more economically.

However I have checked Wikipedia article traffic statistics for "Josesph Ransdell" (here) and "Joseph E. Ransdell" (here. The October traffic to "Joseph E. Ransdell" page was 279, with three days missing, so it was probably more like 300, avg. almost 10 a day. The October traffic to the "Joseph Ransdell" page was only 48 (probably more like 51), avg. almost 2 a day. So, four out of five looking for Senator Joseph Ransdell go straight to "Joseph E. Ransdell." I believe that the majority of people looking for the philosopher Joseph Ransdell would type in "Joseph Ransdell", since that is how he is best known. So there's a good argument for making "Joeseph Ransdell" a redirect to "Joseph M. Ransdell" and placing the following template atop "Joseph M. Ransdell"

(Note: The Wikipedia article traffic statistics site does not include, in a page's traffic, traffic from a redirect page. I learned this in tracking traffic to "Charles Peirce" and "Charles Sanders Peirce", which switched redirect roles a while back. When "Charles Peirce" became a redirect to "Charles Sanders Peirce", the stats page continued to show it as having much, much higher traffic than "Charles Sanders Peirce". That continued until I tweaked the wikilinks in referring Wikipedia articles to link directly to "Charles Sanders Peirce" instead of "Charles Peirce". This may or may not reflect that traffic is driven mainly by wikilinks; it may also have to do with how Google decides to list a wiki page as primary - it has the highest number of pages linking to it. Also note, I've found that, when typing an article name into the stats page's search field, it tends to work more reliably if one types all in lower case.)
