Terrorism?[edit]

Removing "terrorist" as word, except where used in phrase such as "YTF was declared a terrorist by such and such", is POV. As they say, "One persons terrorist is another persons freedom fighter." Please add cite before replacing. SmithBlue 05:22, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On the contrary, placing the "terrorist" adjective is evidence of POV. "They" parroting the "freedom fighter" nonsense are incorrect. For one, the two aren't even mutually exclusive: one can fight for freedom by using terrorist means, as, for example, Chechens have done a number of times. And the term "terrorism" has a perfectly-defined meaning:

terrorism, act of terrorism, terrorist act: the calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear.

Terrorist attacks the innocent so as to scare (terrify) his actual targets. Salvi's murders would not qualify: he attacked not "civilians", but the targets — people he deemed to be murderers — directly. пан Бостон-Київський (talk) 00:18, 18 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, terrorism is a BIT more complicated. It can attempt to undermine confidence in the local, regional or national government's ability to protect the populace, in order to accomplish the wished goal. It could be to repel an invader, by a similar undermining effort. It could be out of an attempt to wrest government from the current regime, by the same goal seeking attempt. Indeed, there are historic cases where it was simply an effort, whilst feeble, to remove a certain ethnic group from an entire region. Many books have been written about terrorism, the goals, the attempts, the methods and the basis for such views. John Salvi claim[edit]

The competency hearing transcript confirms that John Salvi possessed Human Life International pamplets[1], and another source claimed he distributed photographs of fetuses from them [2]. If he had pamphlets for Encyclopedia Britannica, would one then consider both linked? Or could it be a gravitation toward an extremist view? Both would be considered "valid", from certain viewpoints, but from a mental health consideration, the gravitation toward extremes would be of worth.Wzrd1 (talk) 04:41, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Terrorist[edit]

Deletion[edit]

I deleted a long sentence under his death that described a so-called controversy. I did a search and all the news articles stated it was a suicide. I found one unnamed Christian anti-abortion blog that described the so-called controversy.Mylittlezach (talk) 04:21, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Second name, for the records[edit]

Anybody can confirm Salvi's 2nd name? He is often mentioned as John C. Salvi III., an Italian ancestry I guess, so probably an Italian sounding one. From the PBS transcripts I got to read 'JOHN W. SALVI, III.', see Hearing Transcripts 2, PBS. Don't believe those working at PBS back then may err on this? I could think of 'William' and 'Giaccomo', but no combination with 'W' and 'C'... Claim that his limbs were bound[edit]

There is a statement that his hands and feet were bound with ties but there is no citation for this claim. It should either be sourced or removed. Birthplace[edit]
