John Phin was notable in that his was the first use of the term "Intelligent Design" in its current meaning. He was also a prolific writer and popularizer of science in the late 1800's.

Google Phin's book "Practical Hints on the Selection and Use of the Microscope" - 95 hits on Dec 25 2007- not bad for a book from 1878-1882 Paulburnett (talk) 16:35, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
